The Role

Where you fit in

The role of the Emerging Risks Manager is to work with Corporate Security colleagues, the business and other relevant functions to ensure that cross-cutting risks are being effectively managed within Shell. Corporate Security (CS) is a global function which provides strategic and operational advice and assurance to the business regarding all aspects of security. This role is global in nature and plays a key role in interfacing with other business/functional stakeholders in HQ and beyond. The role will report to the (Corporate) Security Strategy and Assurance Manager.

What’s the role?

You will be in liaison with business leads and other relevant functions, on the following risk areas:

  • Insider risk, including the Enhanced Vigilance Programme

  • Anti-Counterfeiting

  • Information security

  • Other emerging risks that increase in relevance to Shell

You will also act as Subject Matter Expert for such risk areas, responsible for developing guidance/processes, conducting risk assessments, upskilling the wider security community, facilitating best practice and knowledge sharing, and benchmarking with external organisations and companies.

Beyond that, you will also be expected to do the following:

  • Be responsible for identifying other risks which cut across geographies, functions, or business lines and which therefore require a coordinated response at a Group level

  • Assist with ad hoc tasks requiring CS Central Team input

What we need from you

  • Extensive diplomatic skills given the wide range of stakeholders in play and the fact that the role will be working on issues that touch on other functions and businesses areas of responsibility / accountability

  • Excellent intellectual leadership to provide clarity on complex issues within Shell’s matrix organisation

  • Self-starter who is also able to troubleshoot on new issues where there is no defined way of working

  • Proven ability to integrate and build strong functional coalitions to manage different security issues affecting a wide range of businesses

  • Extensive security experience, or extensive experience of risk management (such as Non-Technical Risk) which may be applicable for the role

  • Experience working on complex risk areas, of managing issues around insider risks and information security highly desirable

  • Professional and personal stature and credibility to interface and influence a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior Shell business and functional leaders and other security professionals

  • Proficient oral and written communications skills to foster the network with senior stakeholders

  • Education to undergraduate degree level is highly desirable
