What’s the role

The Business Buyer supports the business or function by procuring goods and services for the asset or function, leveraging all available buying channels while reducing overall third-party spend. The Business Buyer works closely with various stakeholders, such as maintenance supervisors, project engineers and work preparators; as well as third-party contractors and vendors to execute and expedite procurement activities. As the gatekeeper for the asset’s external spend, the Business Buyer is expected to bring a commercial edge to business conversations around demand for goods and services in maintenance activities and operations. The Business Buyer will coach, advise and train frontline staff to enable frontline buying activities.

What you’ll be doing

The Business Buyer is responsible for the efficient procurement of goods and services for the assets through all available buying channels and ensuring frontline buying happens within agreed boundary conditions. There is  heightened focus on “maximizing work not done” and supporting frontline buying activities. The Business Buyer resides in the NAM Contracting & Procurement team.

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Non-contractual buying
  • Overseeing the end-to-end procurement process, including PO creation, expediting and invoicing
  • Early involvement with various stakeholders to ensure appropriate buying channels are selected, contracts are used where applicable and sufficient lead times are adhered to
  • Expediting goods as needed to ensure on-time delivery
  • Invoice resolution to ensure on-time payment of vendors
  • Identifying improvements in current procurement opportunities and process optimizations driving simplification and transparency
  • Driving cost reduction through RtP operational excellence and continuous improvement to the RtP process
  • Identifying and resolving RtP non-compliance through awareness and training of stakeholders
  • Maximizing the use of SAP automation capabilities

Special Challenges

NAM is transitioning to an organization where buying activities are executed by the frontline, such as work preparators or project engineers. The incumbent is expected to support and actively work on this transition, continuously coaching and advising stakeholders.

Dimensions

  • Supports internal stakeholders (Supervisor, Lead) in understanding improvement areas and implementing them; no external interface
  • Executes standard and defined contracts under close supervision by the Manager. Manages basic processes and systems related to the department with some cross-functional and cross-system linkages (i.e., may have linkages to more than one location or site)
  • Supports within either evergreen or brownfield sites, carrying out basic analysis
  • Supports internal stakeholders (more than one department) in fulfilling standard and non-standard operational requirements with minimal interface with external stakeholders (supplier)

What you bring

  • Excellent understanding of SAP and Ariba IT systems with proven analytical skills
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in the oil and gas business is preferred
  • Understanding of key interfaces and interdependencies between CP processes, controls, and systems and those of other departments such as Finance, Projects, Order to Cash (OTC), etc.
  • Commercially savvy with a solid understanding of expediting processes
  • Strong negotiation and deal-making skills, well- organized and adept at managing competing priorities
  • Demonstration of good stakeholder management skills
  • Highly driven with ‘can do’ attitude, embraces change and maintains continuous improvement mindset
  • Has proactive approach in identifying and delivering opportunities
  • Uncompromising commitment to ethics, compliance and HSE is a ‘must-have’
