
Mechanical Engineer
What’s the role
The Mechanical Engineering role is positioned to provide engineering support to the NAM Production units and Modification teams. As part of a diverse team, you will deliver technical support relating to design, selection, specification, performance, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. The team interacts with field operations, maintenance and projects. Engineers involved in asset support will be co-located in agile support squads whom in turn focus their output to create top quartile performance within the pressure equipment integrity workspace.
Strong emphasis is placed on delivering results without compromising HSSE or technical integrity. Cost, schedule and quality are key factors to delivering results as are leadership, teamwork and fostering of effective relationships.
What you’ll be doing
You are a key contributor and a member of the team that provides the following services to the respective Production Units and Projects:
- Technical specialist mechanical static engineering expertise & support to Projects &Onshore-NL Asset facilities
- Demonstrate technical integrity and reliability of mechanical static equipment
- Function as contract holder for various portfolios in support of delivery of both product and services in the pressure equipment workspace
- Act as Technical Authority within Mechanical – static with enthusiasm for multiskilling in Materials & Corrosion and Rotating
- Fitness for service assessments of various degraded pressure equipment and advice on repair options as well as on related temporary deviations of the original design intension
- Participate in technical integrity audits, RCA's, HAZOP's, HBA’s, FSR-reviews and pre-startup audits
- Provide support to RCM classifications and reliability studies
- Promote the application of new technologies and design/implementation methodologies
- Ensure alignment with other disciplines such as Materials/Corrosion, Inspection, Instrumentation, Civil, Electrical, Rotating equipment, and Process
- Provide technical and commercial advice on all aspects of conceptual and detailed design, purchase and implementation of mechanical equipment
- Assure cross learning within the discipline to align with the different assets and projects
- Subject matter Expert roles for designated subcategories within mechanical static
Dimensions of the role
You will report to the Mechanical Chapter Lead who is covering Rotating Equipment, Mechanical Static and Materials in the Discipline Engineering department.
The role does not have any direct reports, however, you will provide indirect leadership in the squad assigned but also in the coaching of junior staff.
You will drive collaboration between the engineering chapters and production units/assets in conjunction with the squad leads, where it is to be ensured that the longer terms vision of sustainable equipment performance in embedded in the day-to-day decision making.

What you bring
- MSc or BSc (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering
- Substantial experience in either upstream or downstream mechanical static equipment
- Demonstratable field engineering support experience
- In-depth knowledge of brownfield mechanical engineering and maintenance inclusive of a good track record of being able to perform fitness for service work in accordance with recognized guidelines
- Knowledge in the design of pressure containment equipment, such as: pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, tanks etc.
- A learner mindset: A habit of gaining insights from others and openly sharing of ideas and knowledge
- Good interpersonal, communication skills and strong commercial skills
- Proven experience and detailed knowledge of both the relevant country specific legislation and industry standards within the mechanical discipline
- Experience with maintenance and integrity management systems is preferred
- Effective communication skills, stakeholder management and a commercial mindset. A high degree of autonomy is required
