
Metering Engineer
What’s the role
The Metering Engineer ensures the reliable and accurate operation of classified Metering/QMI systems within NAM assets in the Netherlands. This role is critical for production, custody transfer, Allocation, WRFM and ETS regulation compliance.
The Metering Engineer is responsible for the equipment care strategies, calibration and technical integrity of these systems while balancing operational and business needs. Additionally, the role involves advising on technical, contractual and regulatory matters and collaborating with various teams and third parties to achieve operational excellence in health and safety, production and cost leadership.
What you’ll be doing
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the proper functioning of selected classified metering systems and QMI equipment across all NAM assets in the Netherlands
- Work within the assigned squads to specify all necessary preventive and corrective metering maintenance and calibration tasks across the production locations
- Balance operational and business requirements when deciding whether to repair or replace aging equipment by identifying and addressing problematic metering/QMI components
- Provide expertise on technical metering issues, as well as on contractual and regulatory matters
- Operate within the Hydrocarbon Account Engineering and Metering Chapter in an agile organization, reporting to the Chapter Lead
- Collaborate closely with other disciplines, functions, and third parties on technical matters
- Strive for excellence in health and safety, technical integrity, production, and cost leadership
- Manage and witness mandatory calibrations of primary elements in certified laboratories and follow up on results
- Participate in technical audits and reviews by internal and external stakeholders
- Provide technical support within agile on system design, selection, specification, construction, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, and performance of equipment for projects with metering content
- Offer commercial input on all aspects of conceptual and detailed design, purchase, and implementation of primary elements and metering systems
- Ensure contractor, vendor, and supplier designs meet applicable standards
Special Challenges:
The position is diverse, involving interactions with several departments including production, maintenance, financial, technical, commercial and with third party stakeholders.
Dimensions:
This position reports to the CL Metering and Allocation and does not carry direct reports.
What you bring
- A highly motivated and qualified discipline/instrument engineer (holding relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with extensive working experience in the oil and gas industry, specializing in the instrumentation discipline and demonstrating expertise in Metering and QMI systems
- Knowledge of Dutch Fiscal Metering Regulations and ability to translate contracts into technical requirements
- Recent experience in an operating environment in an oil & gas processing facility
- Good understanding of other disciplines in engineering to challenge and collaborate across disciplines in a meaningful way
- Good understanding of maintenance of operating facilities, including the shutdown process, scope development, etc. is advantageous
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills, teambuilder with capability to deliver through others
- Excellent communication skills. Proficient in Dutch language is required
- Good reporting and presentation skills
