The main objective of the Payroll Function is to deliver compliant, accurate and timely pay, while creating exceptional and consistent experiences for employees

HR Operations (Payroll) offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to utilize payroll experience, stakeholder engagement, end to end process thinking and controls, systems acumen, and leadership skills, while developing a broader understanding of critical payroll and benefits related policies, government and legal requirements and the resulting implications on pay. This position offers a high degree of exposure across all lines of business.

What’s the role?

This position will be of Deputy Payroll Manager reporting to India Payroll Manager.  The Deputy Payroll Manager will be responsible to deliver compliant, accurate and timely pay, while creating exceptional and consistent experiences for India employees by utilizing payroll experience, stakeholder engagement, third party vendor management, end to end process thinking and controls.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Responsibilities and accountabilities in managing the E2E Payroll process and controls across an increasingly complex and dynamic country and functional landscape (e.g., increasing legal and fiscal changes), where failure to deliver will result in huge fines and penalties for Shell, Reputational damage for the Company, and suffer significant negative impact to the Employee Value Proposition and User Experience if not managed properly.
  • This position is responsible to ensure Shell's compliance across an increasingly complex statutory and regulatory landscape across Payroll, Policy, Tax, Legal, IT and Finance.
  • This position is responsible to work across multiple stakeholders to develop E2E Process and design solutions, and translates business requirements into system, process and controls requirements necessary to meet Shell business obligations.
  • Driving the optimization, harmonization and standardization of local payroll processes to the global standard.
  • Oversee external service delivery by vendor partner related to Retiral process area.
  • Strong Senior Stakeholder Engagement Skills working across multiple Functions and LOBs.
  • Skilled in Continuous Improvement methodologies (LEAN, Six Sigma) and familiar with HR process and data management models.
  • Strong communication and change management skills.
  • Expertise and extensive experience as a project manager across HR/ HR IT with a proven track record of delivery.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of end-to-end compensation, Payroll, Finance and IT processes in SAP HR and Workday and experience of working with these products in a global organization.
  • Data Privacy:  Ensuring personal and sensitive data is appropriately managed and protected at all points in the E2E payroll process.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple senior stakeholder groups, understand the key business issues and develop practical solutions in support of the business needs. Deal effectively with ambiguity. Proven capability in business partnering and change management. Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in virtual setting. Ability to work and prioritize across multiple priorities and manage relationships at global and local levels
  • Flexibility to periodically work outside of normal office hours will be necessary given the global nature of the organization and time zones involved.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple senior stakeholder groups, understand the key business issues and develop practical solutions in support of the business needs. Deal effectively with ambiguity. Proven capability in business partnering and change management. Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in virtual setting. Ability to work and prioritize across multiple priorities and manage relationships at global and local levels.

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Finance, HR, Accounting, Business Administration or MBA with a solid 10 year's work experience in Payroll Operations and Retiral management.
  • Deep subject matter knowledge of pension and Retiral Trust Management.
  • Knowledge of India Tax and Regulatory Compliance.
  •  Vendor Management.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and Controls. 
  • Proven ability to build and sustain relationships, operating with stakeholders. 
  • Knowledge of SAP HR/Payroll system, Workday, APRO.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Experience in introducing and maintaining service excellence.
  • End to end process thinking, Innovative and Strategic thinking, Project Management Experience required.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Awareness and understanding of industry SOX/FCM processes. 
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in the MS suite of products. 
  • Proactive in analyzing/solving problems and identifying/delivering process improvement opportunities. 
  • Strong written communication and presentation. 
  • Ability to multi-task several key deliverables.
