This is an exciting opportunity to work in the DIY CoE (Do-It-Yourself, Center of Excellence) organization at Shell.

The DIY CoE is being established to work closely with DIY coaches in Business to help DIY developers/data scientists start their DIY/Citizen development journey and guide them on their way, including end-users with DIY technical, process and app design areas. And once the resulting solutions reach value and usage thresholds that require a more robust and IT-supported setup, the CoE will help achieve this too through professional development.

The Senior Analytics Engineer will have an opportunity to work in the DIY CoE organization at Shell. We are looking for a talented Alteryx developer with a passion for DIY and great interpersonal skills to join our team. The energy transition is underway and emerging digital technologies are redefining our operating environment and the way we work. The role is central to this. Customers vary from finance professionals to engineers, from scientists to health and safety specialists. The role is positioned within Shell’s Information & digital engineering organization with a heavy emphasis on DIY and consultancy. The successful candidate will be well-experienced in designing, develop, deploy Alteryx solutions. The candidate works very closely with all businesses and works across natural teams to provide technical consultancy and advisory, perform feasibility assessments, PoCs, and opportunity framing and advocates best practices and standards for the Alteryx platform.

What’s the role?

As the Senior Analytics Engineer- Alteryx, you will work closely with DIY coaches in Business to help DIY developers start their DIY journey and guide them on their way, including end-users with DIY technical, process and app design areas. And once the resulting solutions reach value and usage thresholds that require a more robust and IT-supported setup, the CoE will help achieve this too through professional development.

What We Need from you?

  • A 4-year graduate or master’s degree in IT or MSc or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics or similar discipline with at least 5 years experience on data science projects. Total years of experience - 9-14 yr

  • 5+ years of related experience with Alteryx and/or KNIME

  • Hands-on skills and experience in Alteryx Designer, Alteryx Server, and the tools with Alteryx such as Predictive, Parsing, and Transforms.

  • 5+ years of work experience on similar tools like:  Informatica, Talend Pentaho data extraction and manipulation tools.

  • 4+ years writing SQL queries against any RDBMS with query optimization. 

  • Experience in developing end-to-end models using machine learning for predictive modelling in a business/industry environment, i.e. feature engineering, model creation and evaluation

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities

  • Good understanding of unit testing, software change management, and software release management

  • Good understanding the star schema and data models in the existing data warehouse.

  • Exposure to data visualization tools like Power BI is an added advantage.

  • Ensure that the design is fit for purpose for DIY Data Science development needs while meeting controls to safeguard secure and reliable operations

  • Create/embed learning curriculum/certification approach for DIY Data Science development

  • Engage the community to embed the use of DIY Data Science toolset, including evangelizing expected ways of working and use of tooling such as source control, CI/CD and static analysis to meet software engineering policies in the IT Control Framework

  • Work with CDOs to agree data access policies for DIY Data Science usage

  • Operationalize DIY Data Science ways of working across LOD1 and LOD2 organizations.

  • Create broader tooling strategy for DIY Data Science in coordination with the Software Engineering portfolio manager and segment architect

  • Work with Software Engineering & Architecture leads to develop and deliver against the Tooling Epic of the product backlog, as well as co-ordinate with any technology-related delivery in other Epics (eg Zoning & Controls, Service).

  • Have strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills. Is highly experienced in communicating with business at all levels.

  • Comfortable to work with global stakeholders, internally and externally.

  • Experience of working in a global business environment/different culture.

  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities.
