
Gas Forecasting Lead
What’s the role
Crucial to the success of this role is the ability to lead a future team of gas forecasting analysts who will provide timely and accurate long term and short term forecasts to the Shell Energy Australia Integrated Performance Unit.
The incumbent must also work collaboratively and influence effectively across multi-functional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, based in various locations, and being able to work autonomously.
At times, support for the broader forecasting team (including electricity forecasting) may be required to ensure delivery of customer requirements in the markets we currently trade in.
Please note that this is a 12-month secondment placement
What you’ll be doing
You will be accountable for:
Leading and coaching of the gas forecasting team members in line with Shell values (Honesty, Integrity and Respect)
Providing leadership in the development and management of the day to day operational activities of both the long-term and short-term demand forecasts over the life of customer contracts. Accurate and timely forecasts enable the Trading team to make informed decisions and to implement hedging strategies to minimize market exposure.
Ensuring adherence with the relevant Regulatory and Compliance requirements, especially for the Short Term gas forecasts. This aligns strongly with our license to operate requirements in the gas markets.
Liaising heavily with counterparties within Trading & Supply, Finance, Market Risk and the Retail Energy teams.
Driving Gas Forecasting Operational requirements into the forecasting platform or model developments across all participating entities
Contributing as a core member to the Commercial Services Leadership team
You will be entrusted to:
Lead a future team in the development and maintenance of the long-term and short-term demand forecasts in the Gas Energy Market and associated Environmental product markets for Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Small to Medium Enterprise (SME), and Retailer LFH (Mass Market) segments
Ensure all timely, relevant and accurate operational elements of the contractual loads from the customers are included in the forecasts and are in line with customers’ and business expectations.
Own all internal and external reporting and submissions processes (including the Emissions Liability reporting) and respond to ad-hoc requests from Trading for regulatory / compliance purposes.
Identify and support the implementation of ongoing process efficiency, digital and automation improvements within day to day operational systems as well as any future transformative changes, in particular in the forecasting platform developments.
Other ad-hoc analysis is a regular requirement of this role
What you bring
We are keen to speak to professionals with the following:
A tertiary qualification (Bachelor or higher degree) Accounting, Business, Finance or equivalent
Industry experience or knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Gas Market is desirable, but not essential
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel & proficiency in all other Microsoft packages
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work under pressure and meet tight timeframes
Good communications skills both written and oral
The successful candidate should be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
