What’s the role

The Senior OT (Operational Technology) Security Engineer has the direct responsibility for the Security and plays role in overall management of the QGC Operational Technology. The incumbent will work with the Main Automation Contract vendor, Maintenance contractor and the asset to setup and secure the OT landscape, create the procedures, SOP’s and implement all requirements. 

The incumbent will represent the OT Security discipline and possess an expert level of understanding of Control Systems as well as sound understanding of cyber risk management and how it applies to industrial environments and drive the implementation of security programs.

What you’ll be doing

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Create/Maintain logical and physical network drawings of OT components.

  • Monitor and execute user access control and user profile management for servers and networks based on documented business approval.

  • Maintain and document OT security measures, ensure compliance with information security requirements, manage risk registers, and oversee EOL systems.

  • Enforce stringent access controls, manage system/user access (including remote access), handle password policies, and ensure competence of authorized users.

  • Monitor systems for security alerts, review logs, manage antivirus and patching, handle incident response, and maintain disaster recovery and backup capabilities.

  • Oversee OT systems including ICSS, Electrical, and PAS; review data communication security; manage vulnerabilities and supplier access securely.

  • Governance, Auditing & Documentation: Evaluate and document security controls, manage audits and assurance processes, define and close remediation actions, and support lifecycle management.

  • Provide technical input on OT architecture, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery; support control system modifications and preventative maintenance plans.

  • Team & Site Management: Manage CSIT engineers across sites, conduct site visits (e.g., Chinchilla/Curtis Island), and ensure execution of SEAM-Maintenance processes.

What you bring

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar certification

    • Cybersecurity industry certification such as Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), Certificates in Network (CCNA or equivalent), Operating Systems (Windows MCSA modules) and Cyber Security: SSCP are an advantage.

  • Significant experience in a similar role; support/administration of IT infrastructure services and business risk management

  • Knowledge of IEC 62443 and experience working in an OT environment (oil and gas / mining / utilities)

  • Must be able to travel to remote field locations for short periods

  • Project management Experience (desirable)

  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively and manage relationships with senior business leaders, peers and subordinates, in a virtual, geographically dispersed and cross-cultural environment. Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Proven background in IT support for business applications/infrastructure, with strong knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches, TCP/IP protocols, IP addressing, and ITIL processes (incident, problem, configuration, change management). Exposure Instrumentation/Control, Production, and Operations is a plus.

  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of handling concurrent tasks under pressure while maintaining quality and compliance.
