Position Purpose

About the Opportunity:

Shell is seeking a Commercial Scheduler to join us at our new location at the Bow Tower. Shell Trading offers you the unique opportunity to join its crude operation team and be a part of its global trading network. This job offers a challenging opportunity to work with traders with the goal of maximizing profitability.

The position is one of 5 positions within Commercial Operations team.  The team is responsible for managing the logistics (marine, pipeline, lease, transload and rail) of all crude and condensate movements throughout Canada. The team of schedulers works within the trading team to execute and optimize trades through their commercial acumen and expertise in crude oil trading operations.

Beyond these key deliverables, the Commercial Operator is expected to “own the molecule” and understand the operations and commercial implications.  The Commercial Operator plays a critical role in the Crude Trading organization and is expected to generate commercial value, manage losses, prevent profit leakage, and analyze / report on all aspects of crude movements within our remit.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage crude scheduling to pipelines, terminals, leases and third parties and ensure alignment of supply and production commitments

  • Proactively support traders and develop a detailed and extensive understanding of supply and logistics to provide commercial feedback and value add

  • Provide solutions and ideas to maximize/improve profit on existing deals and/or explore hidden value/options

  • Liaise with Shell Entities, Third Party counterparties and team members to resolve and eliminate issues impacting schedules, supply and settlements

  • Effectively communicate trading needs to traders/schedulers and other team members

  • Ensure that day-to-day orders and schedules are prepared accurately and timely

  • Manage tanks and inventories

  • Perform the daily task of quantifying and analyzing discrepancies between the plan, schedules and actual performance. Analyze and communicate results to the responsible parties to take necessary corrective actions. Escalate issues when need be

  • Support the month end process for reporting production volumes and inventories in systems and for group to reconcile gaps

  • Provide backup coverage for other scheduling desks

  • Interface with Traders, Schedulers, Contract Management Team and Ops Support Analysts to resolve Customers / Vendors issues in a timely fashion

  • Comply with various government reporting requirements

  • Support Continuous Improvement throughout the organization

  • Contribute to maximizing commercial value

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience within a crude scheduling role

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Supply Chain or Engineering

  • Required experience with mainline, feeder and/or lease scheduling

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are a necessity

  • This role requires ability to answer urgent calls and or emails 24/7, including weekends and holidays

  • Tues/Wed/Thus – min 3 days in office with flexibility to work remotely Mon/Fri

The successful candidate must be very detail-oriented and understand the need for urgency and communication inherent in the role. Effective planning and organization skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting, are essential. As this is an operational role, the incumbent must be contactable 24/7.
