The Role

General Position Definition

  • This role will support analytics and data science for Shell in the area of supply chain
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering commercial value and insights through Data Science
  • Incumbent is responsible for working on a range of technologies and tools collaborating directly with cross business stakeholders
  • Candidate should be highly self-driven: able to ask the right questions, ability to move from data to insight to action, break down strategic & operational questions from different teams and structurally answer them with data driven insights

Skills

Industry / Functional Expertise

  • Provide data science expertise in the below areas:
  • Supply Chain Optimization:  Supply chain optimization includes inventory management, production scheduling, Raw material sourcing and Route optimization
  • Pricing Analytics: Understanding the price elasticity of different products and build forecast models
  • Demand Forecasting: Understanding the sales pattern across the globe and develop demand forecasting models conditioned to the regional dynamics
  • Production/Planning Analytics: Understanding the day to day operations data and identify potential opportunities to optimize the processes
  • Presentation & Story telling skills to translate complex data science models and insights for the businesses to understand
  • Proficiency Level: Skill-to-Mastery

Stakeholder Engagement Skills

  • Working collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders on project deliverables and day to day tasks
  • Ability to articulate complex data science models to the end users and present the insights in easily understandable and innovative formats
  • Ability to proactively recommend multiple approaches along with their pros & cons to the stakeholders and support making the right decisions
  • Proficiency Level: Skill-to-Mastery

Technology Skills

  • Strong experience in specialized analytics tools and technologies (including, but not limited to)
    • Python, R
    • Azure Databricks, Alteryx, SQL, SAP HANA
    • Power BI, Spotfire or other visualization tools
  • Statistics / Machine Learning: Hypothesis testing, Univariate / Multivariate Analysis, Classification/PCA, Factor Analysis, Affinity & Association, Time Series, Decision Trees, Clustering
  • Optimization: Linear/Non-Linear/Convex programming, Knowledge of Optimization frameworks & Algorithms, Skillful in translating a business operation into mathematical model for optimization
  • Exploratory Data Analysis: Data profiling, Data quality analysis & Descriptive statistics to understand how the data will fit to build advanced mathematical models to solve specific business problems
  • Deep Learning: OCR, Keyword extraction, NLP [Good to have]
  • Assess data availability and modeling feasibility by understanding the data sources from SAP HANA, Azure
  • Proficiency Level: Skill-to-Mastery

  • Ability to work in a challenging fast-paced analytics environment
  • Extremely curious and self-driven to understand complex business operations
  • Ability to translate a business question into a well-defined analytical plan that includes the requirements to extract the necessary data.
  • Ability to ask for the right data and perform a robust quality assessment of the available datasets
  • Ability to show a fast learning curve - Rapid onboarding on projects, understanding the ways of working and handling multi-layered datasets
  • Continuous learning & continuous improvement – Take ownership of the solutions developed, be the first level of quality assessment and strive to improve the outcome continuously
  • Virtual working with network of colleagues located all over the globe
  • Ability to work in Agile project delivery and analytics / digital product development in a cross-functional environment

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of working experience in building data science models & deriving actionable insights
  • Excellent in data processing, code optimization, debugging & visualizing the output
  • Well versed in statistical techniques, parameter tuning, sensitivity checks & output interpretation   
  • Preferred experience in supply chain, product portfolio, production, logistics & network optimization
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and influencing skills
  • Eagerness to learn and ability to work with limited supervision
  • Any Engineering degree (4 yrs. +) or Any Masters in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, etc.
