What’s the role

As an Associate Project Planning Engineer, you'll create and maintain project plans, ensuring they are realistic and up-to-date. You'll monitor progress, conduct monthly updates, and analyze critical paths. Your role involves working closely with engineering teams to understand key schedule drivers and find ways to optimize plans. You'll use Shell's tools and processes, prepare benchmarking data, and strive for continuous improvement. Effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders are essential. Most projects are brownfield, meaning they involve existing facilities, so integration and optimization are crucial for faster, cost-effective delivery.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the delivery and maintenance of consistent and realistic plans and control structures for projects.  Understand and monitor the interfaces between assigned project sub-elements and other sub-elements.  Develop the activities, logic, resources, and progress for the assigned project sub-elements.

  • Comply with the planning and progress monitoring procedures.

  • Conduct the scheduled monthly progress update, forecast, critical path, and trend analyses for assigned elements, including any impact from interface areas.  Provide input to the status reports and ensure that these include the incorporation of approved changes.

  • Liaise with project engineering personnel to assist in a proper understanding of the key schedule sensitivities and drivers - Assist with the identification of alternate approaches to optimize the plan (s)

  • Know the contract key dates, milestones, and Shell plan dates and how they relate to the overall project schedule.  Understand the requirements of the contract sections for planning and progress reporting.  Review and verify contractors' reported progress and incorporate it into scheduled progress updates.

  • ·Maintain awareness of critical and sub-critical paths and track float consumption.

  • Utilize the Shell standard tools and processes.

  • Prepare of input data for benchmarking activities, including comparing with historical performance, industry norms, and established KPIs.

  • Proactive demonstration of continuous improvement.

  • Effective collaboration and alignment with various stakeholders. Intimate interaction with business partners on the project services support requirement and performance, such as Project Team, Front End Team, Discipline Engineering, Finance, Contracts & Procurement, Wells, and JV Partners.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with everyone from contractors to Project Team LT.

  • Proactive approach to work and possess a high degree of initiative.

  • Most of the projects are brownfield projects. Brownfield projects as opposed to Greenfield are centred on existing facilities. Therefore, integrations and optimizations are key enablers as these projects have a high impact on production and need to be delivered faster at a lower cost.

What you bring

  • Engineering/Technologist Degree and/or Certification as a Planning Engineer or equivalent experience.

  • At least 2 years refinery or petrochemical industry experience in Portfolio Planning.

  • Experience in Planning Engineer positions for portfolio Capital/Maintenance projects

  • Works effectively in a Team environment and build consensus & Customer focus.

  • Working knowledge of a broad range of Planning tools, and practices specifically in Oil & Gas industry.

  • Strong leadership, communication, report-writing, and presentation skills.

  • Skill in Primavera P6, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SAP/ GSAP, Excel.

  • Background in Oil and Gas maintenance and operations is an advantage.

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills

  • Preferred experience in following tools: Primavera , PowerBI

  • Preferred experience in refinery or petrochemicals plant turnarounds.
