The Role

  • Acts as a deep Subject Matter Expert for most complex parts of monthly payroll processes and legislation delivery for 1 or 2 countries in accordance with legal/regulations, compliance with FCM controls, monitoring posting to finance process and execution of statutory and third-party payments.    

  • Work in partnership with Country Payroll Team to oversee and guide data entry processes impacting payroll or changes and develop payroll awareness sessions to upskill/refresh Payroll / HR Operations staff in the form of a Country Payroll Clinics.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to drive CI with key stakeholders (Country Payroll Team, SBO Payroll Specialists, HROPS, FO-Payroll Accounting Manila, IT) to improve quality of payroll service delivery covering E2E payroll processes.   

  • Subject Matter expertise for resolving complex payroll queries, escalations and supporting Country Payroll Team with local projects (such as policy review, legislative changes, reporting requests, etc.) and act as deep Subject Matter expertise for integrated systems connecting the Payroll Ecosystem E2E.

  • Responsible for close cooperation with transformation change agents and projects to drive successful technology changes implementations including testing for them (Workday, Assignment Pro)

  • Oversee, monitor and audit the payroll process and system as required including execution of country payroll self-audit.

  • Use robust data mining capabilities and techniques to provide actionable insights in support of Shell’s business. Engaging with internal stakeholders providing transparency on payroll related data and financials using internal payroll and related data while transforming it into actionable insights.

  • Act as a deputy for the country payroll manage in reviewing payroll control reports and provide approvals for payroll results and payments. Also act as backup for the payroll team.

  • Individual contributor roleCollaborating closely with SBO Payroll Specialist(s), Country Payroll Team, HROPS, local HR Policy & Benefits, Finance, Legal and Employment Tax for a given country

  • Multimillion financial impact for whole country employee population supported by the role including large number of expatriates

Requirements:

  • University degree preferably HR, Business Administration, Finance or MBA

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience working in Payroll, HROPS including International Mobility, Employment/Expatriate Tax, Compensation or Finance

  • Proven capability in enhancing the employee and line manager experience in all interactions.  Strong Continuous Improvement mindset.

  • Adaptability and flexibility are essential - demonstrating initiative with regards to forward thinking and planning.

  • Ability to translate legal and tax changes into payroll requirements for further validation during payroll testing process.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to interact at all levels of the organization with confidence and professionalism.

  • Advanced use of Salesforce and Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint is a must.

  • Strong awareness of control environment and risk mitigation.

  • Ability to collaboratively work in cross-functional with Global and Local Teams in Project to deliver clear results.

  • Ability to oversee end to end processes across the Payroll ecosystem.

  • Ability to digest large Payroll data sets and translate them to drive business insights.

  • Demonstrated ambition to grow in the payroll profession.

  • Knowledge of Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, India or China payroll will be added advantage.

Key Challenges

  • Translating complex IT/Payroll/Employee tax/Social insurance changes into Payroll system actions and payroll process needs, stay up to date with all relevant impact on the end to end process

  • Influencing and embedding collaborative ways of working across the integrated E2E payroll process working across multiple countries and functions
