Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production (SMEP) has a large portfolio, with a highly complex Production Sharing Contract (PSC) environment and cost allocation rules encompassing 17 PSCs through 6 legal entities, involving 6 JV partners and a National Oil Company (PETRONAS).
Sarawak Analyst supports Sarawak team in R&A Malaysia Upstream, to provide R&A accountabilities within Sarawak pooling portfolio; with close interface and collaboration with Finance in Business and Upstream Sarawak Malaysia teams.

Where do you fit in? 
Reporting to Sarawak Lead, this role supports Sarawak’s reporting Portfolio to execute a range of financial deliverables covering the month-end close, LE, MI reporting and plan, whilst ensuring activities are conducted in line with Shell Frameworks and policies. These include business specific process improvement agenda and the controls simplification agenda. In this role you will interface with business stakeholders, your finance in the business colleagues, the wider UP/IGNE finance community; the R&A Process Owner organization and FO Controllers.   The role will be part of the pool of analysts supporting the asset with scope continuously defined based on value and risk.  

Whats the role:
This role will have specific accountabilities with regards the support for Sarawak Malaysia. These include but are not limited to:
• Together with Senior Sarawak analyst to successfully perform Monthly & Quarterly Group Reporting, FYLE and QLE as well as Accounting submissions to Group returns are correct and in compliance with accounting policies.
• Advise SMEP Finance Teams on the application of financial accounting policies and standards (GFRM, IFRS, MFRS) and provide accounting support on Accounting Notes, and Dispensations (including Petronas Procedures and Guidance for Upstream Activities & Malaysia PSC specifics).
• Comply with other Group submissions as required, e.g. Payments to Government Reporting; input to 20-F Annual Report
• Support lead in SMEP LOB’s latest estimate on total costs, cash and working capital forecast, including the Work Programme Budget (WPB).
• Support Senior Sarawak Analyst analyst to perform regular reviews and take actions as required on IG and 3rd Party receivables and payables to achieve Group and internal targets by removing blockages, streamlining processes and enforcing accountabilities.
• Ensure financial controls are in place to protect value and minimize value leakages, and ensure a robust cost allocation methodology and principles are in place to have a prompt recovery of costs.
• Provide insightful financial and management information to the Business to enable decision making that leads to an improved business performance.
• Support further development of Touchless MI and drive high penetration on usage of tools
• Support audit deliverables include defending cost recovery from PETRONAS & and JV partners
• Support lead in pooling of resources to manage workload across peaks and activities.

What we need from you? 
*Experienced in complex ERP systems, particularly SAP is an advantage
* A strong understanding of financial accounting, reporting and controls, and ability to efficiently execute standard process whist ensuring appropriate levels of compliance 
* Excellent analytical skills, including an ability to quickly interpret, link and translate complex data quickly into concise insights, understandable to both finance and non-financial stakeholders
* Ability to remain resilient under time pressure and independently prioritise multiple competing priorities whilst maintaining appropriate attention to detail
* Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop strong relationships with staff at all levels.
