
Terminal Operator
What’s the role
Shell Canada is seeking a Terminal Operator to join their team at the Sherwood Terminal.
The Terminal Operator – Sherwood is part of a team of nine people at the site, with the objective of delivering safe and reliable operations to serve Shell’s fuel customers in the local market. The terminal also acts as a supply point for other Shell terminals in the network. Adherence to both Shell and regulatory compliance, respect for Shell’s Code of Conduct, and maintaining our “License to Operate” are essential. This role is crucial for maintaining day-to-day operations and serves as a key interface with contractors and carriers, overseeing product handling, maintenance activities, and project work.
The Sherwood Terminal receives refined products (gasoline, distillate, and biofuels) via pipeline and truck, and ships out products via truck and pipelines (Alberta Products Pipeline/ Enbridge).
The terminal operates continuously, 24/7, with support from Product Handlers. The Terminal Operator position follows a Monday to Friday day shift schedule, with occasional overtime as needed.
Terminal Operators are responsible for all operational duties related to the receipt, storage, and distribution of its products. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain compliance with company procedures and government regulations related to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) and various agency permits
Execute preventive maintenance work orders of terminal assets to ensure sound process safety
Solve loading rack malfunctions and other issues with other terminal systems such as pumps, and tanks
Oversee project or contractor maintenance activities as Lead Permit Issuer (LPI)
Develop lock out tag out plans, isolate equipment, and perform draining to prepare equipment for maintenance
Own site procedures, including developing and reviewing them
Operational readiness in support of project or maintenance activities
Coverage for the Product Handler role
Accountable for compliance with company and regulatory procedures in the execution of the job such as:
Compliance with the Safety, Environmental and Asset Management (SEAM) Standards
Compliance with the Global Terminal Operations Manual
Compliance with the Distribution Measurement Manual
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer
Must have a High School Diploma
Must hold a valid designation as Petroleum Mechanic, Red Seal Pipefitter/Millwright, or Journeyman Electrician/Instrumentation Technician
At least 5 years’ relevant experience
Experience in Front line barrier management (FLBM) such as emergency response, Asset management and Lead permit issuer is a plus
Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
Must be willing to travel occasionally, work overtime or outside regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available for emergency callouts
Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
Must be willing to support and comply with company safety policies and initiatives
