What’s the role
Shell is seeking an Electrician (internally known as a Craft Team Member – Ref/Chem/Dist Elec) who will report to the Maintenance Team Lead (MTL). The Craft Team Member (CTM) is responsible for performing maintenance and troubleshooting activities within their skill set to support safe and reliable operations. Guided by the MTL, the CTM collaborates with other team members to execute a coordinated maintenance schedule. They also work closely with other craft disciplines to carry out repairs and perform preventative maintenance, ensuring high reliability and efficient equipment care.
The maintenance roles within the Refinery and Chemicals plants are represented by Unifor Local Union 530A. As such, successful candidates will be members of the Union upon hire. New employees will be provided with more details of the Collective Bargaining Agreement by a Union Representative during regular onboarding sessions.
The Shell Scotford Complex is a short drive from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and consists of a bitumen upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plant and a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility. Scotford has both union and nonunion hourly employees. The refinery and chemical plants are unionized, and the upgrader is not unionized.
Accountabilities:
Assists in the development of preventive maintenance systems, surplus program, maintenance practices and procedures, infrastructure (tools and equipment)
Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively within the team, across crafts, and with operations
Work safely and adheres to Shell Scotford policies and Life Saving rules
Verify and perform work as requested on approved work orders, follow up and sign off
Provide feedback to planners and schedulers to help improve plan and schedule quality
Assist MTL with Preventative Maintenance forecasting/compliance and work order backlog management
Work with Maintenance Technical Support Team, Operations and Engineering Services on identified repeat failures, Root Cause Analysis and Reliability issues
Interface with Operations, other Craft Team Member Groups and contractors
Make sound decisions based upon maintenance guidelines and principles and works well with others under any situation
Execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs
Provide input into production unit shutdown work scope and overhaul issues
Understand and follow Maintenance Execution Work Process practices
Aid in integrity audits of equipment installations for new projects
Perform work in all business units and area on an as needed basis
Coordinate daily personal work activities to ensure weekly maintenance plan and operations objectives are achieved
Ensure equipment has been tested and is ready for startup.
Interface with vendors and lead work fronts when required
Maintain a high standard of workmanship, safety awareness and housekeeping
Maintain records and drawings
Provide history for equipment repair and feedback to plans
Work with computer base maintenance systems like GSAP or Blueprint
Help solve problems through troubleshooting and comprehension of process systems
Ensure compliance to preventative maintenance activities, License to Operate and regulatory requirements
Participate in the Maintenance Callout system
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Minimum Grade 12 diploma
Must possess a valid driver's license
Alberta or Interprovincial (Red Seal) Journeyman-level Electrician with maintenance experience in an industrial environment is preferred
At least 5 years’ experience in an industrial setting
Proficient in basic computer operations and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
Ability to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level
Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Must be willing to participate in off-shift coverage (nights, weekends, holidays, or emergencies as needed), cold weather coverage, and Turnaround support
Must be willing to work a rotating shift schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
Display skill with Electrical Heat tracing, installation, splicing, EHT controllers & monitoring systems
Experience in the use of power and hand tools
Working experience in electrical drawings, P&ID’s & isometric
Working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), 600V, 5kV, 25kV, and 35kV switchgear, Motor Operated Valves (MOVs), and/or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
