What’s the role

Shell is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join their Scotford Environment team.

This role involves delivering environmental and regulatory expertise, supporting projects and assets across Scotford. The team includes engineers and environmental specialists who provide environmental support, integrated technical assurance, and regulatory and advocacy programs. The role is based locally at the Scotford site outside of Fort Saskatchewan.

The GHG Regulatory Engineer is a member of the Scotford Environment team, reporting to the Environment Manager. This position provides subject matter expertise and strategic support for compliance, improvement, and future-focused projects and initiatives across Scotford assets. The GHG Regulatory Engineer is expected to demonstrate knowledge to skill level understanding of environmental risk areas.

Accountabilities:

  • Co-lead Scotford’s GHG emission inventory management and provide technical guidance to Scotford’s existing environmental programs.

  • Understand business drivers to develop and deliver high quality, fit for purpose mitigations/improvements in addressing Scotford’s environmental risk areas, in a few of the following areas: GHG management, wastewater/water quality, air quality, pollutant dispersion, estimation, measurement, waste control and/or related impact assessment processes.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, to deliver environment opportunities and risk management.

  • Ensure compliance management systems are established and implemented to meet applicable environmental and company regulatory requirements,

  • Identify and progress environment opportunities and improvements across Scotford’s assets using appropriate work processes.

  • Support Scotford’s existing environmental programs and contribute to Scotford’s overall GHG management, including decarbonization.

  • Provide recommendations on the application of relevant Shell internal standards, technical aspects of legislative requirements, and external standards & policy; partner with Government Relations as a regulatory & advocacy focal point on current and emerging regulations and policies.

  • Participate in external verification for Compliance & Assurance on Environment related standards, e.g., ISO 14001 and GHG emissions reporting.

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering or any other related field is preferred

  • At least 7 years of relevant technical experience, preferably at or associated with an Operating Site

  • Working knowledge of Carbon Intensity, Life Cycle Analysis, GHG emissions control technology, assessment and design use is preferred

  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Low Carbon/GHG Regulations such as TIER and/or Canada Clean Fuel Regulations.

  • Knowledge of applying and integrating Environmental risk management into business processes
