
Mechanical Static Engineer
What’s the role
The Scotford Refinery, Chemicals and Distribution Mechanical team is a group of Engineers, Inspectors, Specialists, and Technologists who work together to ensure the safe and reliable condition of site equipment. Key stakeholders for the Mechanical team are asset Operations, Maintenance, and technical disciplines who rely on the Mechanical Static Engineer to monitor equipment, proactively mitigate and develop detailed repair scopes in order to prevent Loss of Primary Containment from site pressure vessels and piping.
Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, the Mechanical Static Engineer is responsible for providing mechanical engineering and technical integrity functions related to the design, repair, and alteration of piping, pressure vessels, tanks, and boilers at the Scotford Refinery, Chemicals and Distribution asset. The Mechanical Static Engineer primarily provides technical support on day-to-day issues within a 90-day outlook and during plant operational upsets or outages. They are required to provide support to the asset in aspects of Design Operating Window (DOW) monitoring, Management of Change (MOC) reviews, Fitness for Service analysis, and repair plan endorsement.
What you’ll be doing
Daily activities of reviewing shift logs and shift plan in preparation for the Technical Support Huddle
Responsible for asset compliance to provincial and federal regulatory requirements covering pressure equipment including new construction, repairs, and maintenance
Provide engineering support in the identification and assessment of damage mechanisms typical within unit equipment
Shared responsibility for the maintenance of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) program
Responsible for mechanical integrity calculations, re-rating equipment, fitness for service evaluations and remaining life assessments
Perform DOW monitoring and assessment, gap communication and resolution leadership
Provide engineering support to area inspectors for the development of inspection plans, repair reports / procedures, and inspection reports / procedures
Provide technical input to failure investigations as necessary
MOC discipline expert and a mechanical engineer/discipline reviewer
Provides solutions to mechanical static equipment balancing regulatory compliance and safety against cost and schedule.
May be required to fill a reserve worker role
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA, or equivalent from another Canadian province
Minimum of four years of experience in Pressure Equipment, Asset Integrity or a related field within a petrochemical or similar industry
Experience with Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and Fitness for Service (FFS) methodologies
Familiarity with basic inspection techniques and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods
The ability to deal with multiple issues concurrently and to work collaboratively with a high sense of ownership
Flexibility and willingness to learn and maintain new skills
