What’s the role?

The North American Crude Desk manages STUSCO's bulk and lease trading activities across North America.  This position requires an individual with a passion for understanding markets and an ability to build and maintain models that predict future physical flows and associated price action.

Crude Market Analysts work closely with Traders and other Analysts across the Shell Trading Network to generate trading ideas and insights using fundamental research and data analysis.  Successful analysts can grow in the role, expanding their scope and responsibility on the desk.

Accountabilities:

  • Developing and maintaining supply and demand models that predict future price differentials
  • Drive margin modelling efforts to support understanding of refinery economics and decision making
  • Synthesizing market data and clearly reporting on key market developments
  • Collaborating with traders and other STUSCO market analysts to refine market views
  • Lead weekly supply and demand meetings
  • Work with traders to develop relevant bespoke analysis
  • Contribute desk views and analysis to wider Shell Trading Market Analysis team
  • Create and update existing models and dashboards

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, economics, or any relevant field
  • 3 or more years of relevant work experience required
  • Strong analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, with experience in designing and implementing data ETL processes
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and languages, such as Qlikview and Qliksense
  • Excel modelling capabilities
  • Understanding of NA crude logistics
  • Previous experience creating and managing fundamental market analysis and models
  • Strong understanding of marginal economics
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly
  • Curiosity

The base salary range for this position is $101,000 - $151,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
