The Role
What’s the role?
We are looking for a new team member for Economics Capability Hub, a central team with a global mandate. Our colleagues are strategically located in various time zones, currently in more than 6 locations, with two centers of gravity; one in the Hague and the other one is Houston.
To continue our regional coverage the advertised position will be part of the West team, covering Americas time zones and will be reporting though the West Team Manager who is based in Houston.
The Economics Capability Hub sits at the heart of the Economics Discipline, reporting in through the Global Discipline Head (GDH) within finance organization. Our remit (below) ranges from hands on Economics Analysis and Assurance, driving functional improvement, and supporting Methodologies and Valuation for the group. Leveraging an upstream economics framework built over decades, the discipline must now broaden to support Shell through the Energy Transition and new challenges brought by Carbon Capture & Storage, Renewable Energy Solutions and Low Carbon Fuels projects. The Capability Hub is expected to be at the center of this evolution, driving the thinking and approach that discipline takes as Shell moves forward into unchartered territory. With a wide range of tasks asked of us, the hub is an ideal place to grow and develop new skills.
The Remit and core objective of the Capacity Hub is to drive industry leading evaluation methodologies and economic capabilities, to underpin the highest quality business decisions. To deliver against this the Capability Hub engages in three main areas of activity.
Economic analysis and assurance, providing Technical Assurance (Level 1 and 2) cover primarily for Lean ventures and key Shell operated and Non-operated Ventures where local capability is unavailable, high-quality evaluation from framing to assurance for high priority high value projects where global resources are unavailable, as well as providing dedicated support to the global CCS team and selected RES projects.
Drive the improvement agenda, including building the economics community, deployment of Decision Analysis/Decision Quality, fit-for-purpose uncertainty and risk analysis, preparation and delivery of training, learning/best practices implementation, tools & modelling support
Methodologies & valuation where the team supports Standards & Guidelines development, support the Valuation committee, develops new ideas on mythology for future improvements, and conducts specific economic analysis for the Global Discipline Head.

Skills & Requirements
What we need from you –
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
At least ten (10) years of direct experience in economics evaluation
Must at least have a BS degree. MBA preferred
You will have strength and capability in the following areas:
Manage the evaluation process through framing to assurance
Economic valuation and methodologies , preferably in an IOC or large company setting
Decision analysis and framing, as a minimum valuation framing, skill in wider opportunity framing and DA/DQ an advantage
Stakeholder management skills are critical as well as comfort engaging with senior leaders
Model building and assurance or significant experience with an existing complex model set
Risk and uncertainty fundamentals and practical implementation
This role can be done remotely anywhere in the US.
