The Senior Crude Oil Options Trader will be responsible for trading options and other related derivatives in US and global energy markets and in coordination with global market activity generated by Shell Trading’s worldwide network. This is a fast moving, dynamic and successful trading team at the cutting edge of the Global Crude oil trading business which supports the Group’s short-term requirements and longer-term strategy.
What this job offers you?
You will be part of the Trading & Supply Crude Oil Trading organization which is at the heart of Shell’s Downstream business. You will be responsible for executing and trading crude oil options and derivatives managing and optimizing the physical supply chain, as well as creating value through proprietary trading.
Reporting to the Crude Futures and Options Team Lead, in Houston, this role will be responsible for the returns of the FFUSA Derivatives trading book, and the opportunity to drive its growth. As Shell’s single interface to the US exchanges for Crude futures and Options transactions, you will be part of a wider global team of derivatives traders and deal structurers.
Your Accountabilities:
Contributing to managing a proprietary crude oil derivatives trading book through careful strategic analysis of the Crude, Products, markets using futures, swaps, and options.
Opportunity to trade complex basket options that create basis and implied products exposure.
Coverage assistance with other roles on the Houston team.
Part of the wider Global Crude trading team looking for synergies and global opportunities.
Confirming overall trade book accuracy on transactions/exposure/profitability.
Participation in a wide array of business development activities to find new sources of value from internal and external financial counterparties.
Single market interface (alongside other Crude options traders as part of the FFUSA team) responsible for market making and executing crude oil options to internal customers and on regulated derivative exchanges
Driving short and medium-term strategy.
100 percent adherence to all of Shell’s Policies & Procedures, Code of Conduct and Compliance Manual.
Skills/Experience/Qualities we are looking for:
Candidate should have a proven track record in the following.
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
Minimum of 5 years of combined crude and or products Options and derivatives trading experience. Other Energy options experience would be considered.
Successful energy commodities derivatives trading experience in initiating, implementing, and managing sizeable positions/strategies, which have generated consistent and substantial profitability over a number of years.
Extensive experience in pricing and managing risk around complex basket options.
Ability to code, develop and build complex options models would be a strong plus.
Business development experience in deal structuring and relationship building with third parties a strong plus.
Highly focused on bottom line profitability and proficient in risk/exposure management.
Excellent interpersonal skills, professional maturity and good work ethics are necessary to succeed in this role. Proven track record in interacting and managing customers and other stakeholders with good outcome in negotiating and concluding deals.
A self-starter with a proactive approach to problem solving and displays a strong commercial acumen and knowing how to adapt trading strategies in a fast-paced and evolving commercial environment. Team chemistry is a must.
The base salary range for this position is $157,000 - $235,000per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 3 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
