What’s the role?

You will work with the East trading and origination team to execute Shell Energy Americas overall strategy built around customer business, asset optimization and the speculative trading of Physical/Financial Gas and Power trading and optimization of assets within a geographic region.

The successful candidate will:

  • Trade financial/physical power and gas positions of up to 3 years or longer in the East Power market with delegated VAR, PME and Gas Equivalent limits
  • Participate in activities such as speculative trading, supply and marketing arrangements, product development, asset optimization, model development and risk management activities to preserve value and reduce risk via the use of all traded instrument types available in both OTC and Exchange
  • Must have expert knowledge of the East/PJM gas and power markets, supply/demand fundamentals, operations, regulatory knowledge of the region and price relationships

Accountabilities:

  • Produce profitable trading results meeting or exceeding the annual financial target for the team by trading gas and power and optimizing assets within the portfolio to maximize profit while reducing risk
  • The individual will have a solid understanding of changing supply/demand fundamentals within the East/ region (for example generation/load, LNG export projects, pipeline/transmission infrastructure projects, gas production profiles, generation retirements, and new build generation projects coming into the market)
  • Strong focus on Compliance and adherence to Regulatory governance within the region
  • Developing comprehensive short to medium-term gas trading strategies
  • Deliver individual speculative and aggregate position management generating an annual PnL in spec trading and asset/portfolio optimization value while operating within defined risk, credit, and regulatory parameters
  • Work with traders, marketers and customers in various locations to provide competitive pricing and support
  • Work collaboratively with functional and commercial groups including Origination, Fundamentals, Accounting, Operations, Credit, and Risk Management

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics or similar fields or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • 3 or more years of experience trading financial and physical natural gas and power in the East/PJM markets in a trading role
  • Expert fundamental knowledge of the East/PJM gas and power market and optimization of assets (i.e. tolls, HRCO’s)
  • Options Trading experience and the ability to understand, trade and manage options
  • Knowledge of fundamental simulation forecasting tools and the manner which these can be used to identify opportunities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

The base salary range for this position is $134,000 - $200,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
