The Role

Lead projects and improvement activities with benefits delivered for the assigned Downstream/ upstream operating units,
Enable the assigned operating units, and it’s on site employees in producing and compiling high value information and data, as measured by improvement trends in data quality.
Ensure the deliverables for oil and Gas Downstream /Upstream Run & Maintain process, Maintenance data management Process & other assigned data processes by contributing, providing support.
Act and be responsible as a Focal Point for any changes in ERP data, working closely with Global/Central Data & Process design owners.
Perform role as primary data engineer, subject matter expert &/or lead engineer for a group of operating units, manufacturing sites, chemical plants and distribution locations.
Maintenance, assurance, technical support and standardization of technical data and documents of the Downstream/ upstream operating units includes site engagement & leadership on technical & tools forums
Analyze technical data and documents and processes for Downstream /Upstream businesses by working with engineering, maintenance, operations and project teams & partners.

Financial Dimensions:
Utilize ERP (SAP/MAXIMO/PACER) as a value Engine to ensure safe and reliable maintenance to ensure availability of the Equipment for Production/safety reducing the cost.

Business Dimensions: Perform primary data engineer role and other technical functions, with scope covering Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), technical data and documents of the operating units, manufacturing sites, chemical plants, supply chain and distribution locations.
Support maintenance effectiveness by maintenance data management as per Business defined Standards with an objective to maximize Productivity while reducing deferment.
Provision, as subject matter expert (SME), for ERP functional support and CMMS support that enables the Sites to leverage the benefits of utilizing the Engineering/CMMS Tools to it’s intended extent.
Leadership in Group and Team to Standardize processes, tools, benchmarks, standards and best practices. May also be assigned to lead a assigned support Site, OU or Data Project Team with 2 to 10 members.



Principal accountabilities:

  • Create/Develop Standard Work Instructions/Standard ways of working for PM data management for assigned processes viz. Plant maintenance Master data management Process, Run and maintain Process for Operating Units and other assigned processes.
  • Effectively lead & guide the team for Maintenance, Reliability & Turn around Data & Documentation process and deliver it successfully by ensuring the quality assurance.
  • Support Operating unit Run & Maintain Process & other processes to meet/achieve their Plant maintenance data request management KPI's to meet 100% by bringing Process improvements through automation & continuously improving the process.
  • Lead the Run & Maintain support and delivering it successfully by helping the business to sort out Integrity Assurance problems in the data by Co-ordinating with Global/Central Assurance Support Process Experts along with the business and Downstream /Upstream Data Process Design Owner.
  • Act as focal for resolving access issues in the data management Tool. Coordinate and take initiative to find renovate the existing data management Tools.
  • Create Automation/Tools/Process improvements to simplify the Run & Maintain Process data management which improved the Speed & Delivery in the process.
  • Managing stakeholders/ representatives of various operating units through effective communication and identifying & resolving the bottlenecks for data analysis, maintaining issue logs and use the same in implementing changes/improvements in the processes.
Will be assigned as trainer for area of process or tools expertise. May share the responsibility with supervisor in staff development of 2 to 10 members.

Key Challenges: Business knowledge and operational skills on activities at the manufacturing site, chemical plant, supply chain and distribution location. Includes specific methods, software and hardware.
  • Having experience in Industrial unit which can help understand the Business Process of Downstream /Upstream SAP-Blueprint and becoming a SME for the MRTA process.
  • understand the Function of Equipment's in the Site and has in-depth understanding of P&ID's and Process Engineering Flow schemes.
  • Proficiency in SAP-PM/MAXIMO/PACER in Downstream /Upstream oil and Gas Business, Advance skills in MS Office applications etc.
  • Confidence to work in virtual environment and managing engagement across different levels of stakeholders, including senior management for day to day operations. Includes initiative to identify and help resolve business and technical issues within areas of responsibility.
  • Continuously represent the Team in different Global Forums. Keeping the technology and knowledge updated as per Global Industry changes and adaption.
  • Sound understanding of business/process workflow and having mature mindset to deal and behave under tough/challenging situations.
  • Strong proficiency in using English for both spoken and written communication, as well as using Skype for Business, Instant Messaging, Video Conferencing, Outlook, etc.
  • Shift work following operating hours of the operating units, manufacturing site, chemical plant, supply chain and distribution location.
  • A self-starter leader and reliable deliverer, with very good verbal and written skills in English, able to negotiate with people, and able to resist undue influence that might otherwise compromise integrity of data quality.
  • Exposes the individual to all cultural backgrounds and organizational levels, across diverse time zones.

Required 3 yrs+ to 8yrs of work experience in Oil & Gas/ Petrochemicals / Chemicals industry past degree in engineering with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Hands on Experience in Plant Maintenance/Operations in the Oil & Gas and Petro-chemical fields. Has been a part of Refinery/Petrochem/Oil Platform maintenance or operations team and familiar with the daily operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance activities
  • Has exposure to Plant Turnaround/Pitstop/Major maintenance activities as either part of the operations team, maintenance team, planning team, and/or engineering support team. Familiar with the different plant equipment such as pumps, vessels, compressors, instrumentation, etc. Has a basic understanding of plant maintenance and operations.
  • Experience in Technical/Maintenance Data and Documents management including processes and tools. For example, proficiency in SAP PM module with links to MM/QM/PS module as an end user and as a core Team user, automation skills in MS Office tools like Excel/Access etc. and Engineering Doc Management Systems (EDMS)
  • Effective communication skills and stakeholder management is a necessary skill for the job.
  • Hands-on design/ maintenance on C&A systems, covering IPS, DCS, F&G, ASD, PLC, Relay system, LCP, actuated/control valves, field instrumentation.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) SAP-PM and SPI experience.
  • Hands on experience with Design / Maintenance of electrical equipment’s Preferred:
  • Basic understanding Downstream/Upstream Safety Critical Elements (SCE) management process, performance standards, and turnaround support will be an added value.
  • Experience in processing the master data change requests (Z6) in SAP PM is highly desirable and preferred.
  • Knowledge of CI methodology is an added value. Able to multi-task, prioritize and ensure delivery of priorities as promised, work without close supervision, and work through others to deliver results. Virtual working experience would be added advantage.

Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now , in its fourth year of operations , it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the  RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a LEED Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.

The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a ‘Downstream India’ - Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Shell Business Operations (SBO Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners’ operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBO on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect.
