What’s the role?
As Monitoring & Surveillance Analyst, you will be expected to:
- Monitoring of trading activity based on review and investigation of automated alerts to identify potential market integrity or other compliance risks.
- Monitoring of transactions based on review and investigation of automated alerts to identify potential financial crime risks.
- Monitoring of business communications based on review and investigation of automated alerts to identify potential market integrity or other compliance risks.
- Work collaboratively with the other analysts in the Centre of Excellence (CoE).
- Work with Senior Analysts to carry out initial escalation of an alert or investigation into suspicious activities and support the ongoing investigation through to conclusion as appropriate.
- Demonstrate a structured approach to documenting and planning an investigation.
- Demonstrate effective use of current reports and information to deduce insights which enhance day to day activities.
- Demonstrate effective use of off-the-shelf programmes such as Excel, PowerBI, Alteryx etc, to handle, manipulate and present data in an insightful way.
- Identify and propose efficiencies based on information available within the tools and metrics.
- Develop good understanding of market integrity risks and the products and ways in which Shell Trading & Supply (T&S) trades.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Familiarity with Market Abuses Regulations: Foundational understanding of market integrity, financial crime regulations and conduct expectations.
- Core Soft Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, demonstrating the ability to set the right tone and relay information succinctly and persuasively to get tasks completed in a timely manner. Strong report writing skills and analytical skills required to process information, make critical judgements, and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
While not a requirement, the following skills and experiences are desirable:
- Monitoring and Trade Surveillance: Foundational understanding of market integrity risks and how they would manifest themselves across Oil and Energy markets based on good knowledge of previous cases and the firm’s activities.
- Market and Product Knowledge: Foundational understanding of oil and energy products and how they trade, including physical markets logistics (this may be specific to one or two product areas)., and therefore the ability to identify unusual behaviours. (Desirable: proficient understanding of products and how they trade.
- Data Manipulation and Analysis: Proficient data manipulation and analytical skills allowing for large data sets to be assessed to identify trends and outliers to support investigations into trading activities.
