To realise Shell’s Powering Progress strategy, the Group will need a simple and agile corporate holding and financing structure and an effective treasury function to manage and deploy capital where required for new opportunities, facilitating the management of $60bn of group debt and $30bn of group cash, whilst successfully navigating a continuously evolving and competitive external landscape.

The Finance Advisor Treasury is part of the Corporate Controllers organisation, our Centre of Expertise for technical accounting, risk management and Group structuring. You will provide subject-matter expertise on treasury risks and reporting in structuring and financing transactions as well as serving as financial controller of some of the Group’s treasury companies with a multi-billion-dollar balance sheets.

You will have the opportunity to partner with colleagues in our Treasury, Tax and Legal organisations to deliver structuring and financing transactions, serving as the ‘voice’ of finance to drive effective risk management and value protection to support quality decision making.

What’s the role?

As a Finance Advisor you will:

  • Provide expert accounting advice to project teams and our colleagues in Finance Operations to ensure transactions are appropriately reported and understood.
  • Provide expertise in identifying and managing financial related risks.
  • Serve as controller of a senior Group treasury company with responsibility of overseeing the work of our Finance Operations team; coaching team members, reviewing internal and external reporting submissions, and ensuring effective operation of the Shell Control Framework
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities including automation, simplification, and compliance initiatives; and
  • Support departmental priorities in learning & development, diversity & inclusion, and other areas. 

What we need from you

You will be a Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) and demonstrate a strong understanding or core financial competencies with experience in risk management and corporate structuring an advantage.

In particular, you will have:

  • A strong knowledge in accounting and reporting with the ability to leverage internal and external resources to deal with a range of technical issues
  • A problem-solving mindset with the ability to deal with ambiguity and complex scenarios
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills with the ability to work with a wide range of finance and non-finance stakeholders including senior leaders
  • Resilience and ability to demonstrate a learner mindset: sharing and improving from mistakes and demonstrating enthusiasm and creativity in delivering change and improvement initiatives; and
  • Effective prioritisation and challenge to initiatives which do not add value.

In addition, through the role we will provide you with the opportunity of further development, including:

  • Further development of a set of core finance skills, including accounting and reporting, Governance, Risk & Assurance and stakeholder management which are critical to building a career in finance
  • Structuring and financing expertise in a large multinational organisation with a specific focus on treasury transactions
  • Opportunities to study for additional professional qualifications (e.g.) if aligned with your development and career aspirations.
