Our customers and counterparties encompass utilities and aggregators, power generators, large industrial and commercial energy users, trading houses, major resource holders and upstream producers of gas, investment banks, offset developers, and compliance entities.
What’s the role?
Shell Energy Europe & Environmental Products is seeking an individual to lead the Gas Market Analysis team. The position will be responsible for supporting one of the largest gas trading teams in the industry by producing best-in-class analytics, targeted directly at producing commercial recommendations which add value to the trading bottom line.
The successful candidate will:
Organize and prioritize the team’s development of models, supply/demand outlooks, and conceptual frameworks to further the desk’s understanding of short- and medium-term fundamental dynamics
Manage relationships with key stakeholders across the business to refine analytical priorities and maximize the delivery and impact of analytics.
Guide the team in developing trading strategies and recommendations based on rigorous analysis. Support trading decisions by providing recurrent and ad hoc trading analysis
Enhance and build the team’s capabilities by sharing new information, tools, and external best practice
Mentor and develop junior members of the team to enhance their commercial impact as analysts and foster positive and effective collaboration across the team
Effectively communicate views and findings to traders, analysts, and other stakeholders
Building collaboration across a large and complex business (U.S. Gas, LNG, European Power & Carbon) to generate consistent cross-commodity analytics and forecasts and to maintain best-practice in tools, data management, and technology
What we need from you
A good degree qualification is required
Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
An ability to communicate complex information effectively and succinctly
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving as part of a team
A strong level of experience of working in the gas market; a trading or commercial environment
A strong track record of analytical experience, ideally within European Gas markets
Clear knowledge of European gas markets and understanding of European gas infrastructure and physical natural gas flows
Experience mentoring and developing less experienced team members
Understanding statistics and modelling would be an advantage
Programming skills in SQL and Python, as well as familiarity with visualization frameworks (Tableau/PowerBI/etc.), would be an advantage
Experience in managing a small team would be an advantage
