Shell Energy Europe & Africa (SE-EA) is part of Shell Trading & Supply organisation with a focus on gas and power markets. The European power business is a highly dynamic and challenging environment, which requires SE-EA to continuously find new and innovative product offerings to be able to grow its portfolio. This role will be part of European Power Portfolio team located in London and reporting into the Power Business Manager. The team supports the power business to ensure the right foundations are in place to meet its strategic objectives. The role will work with Power Trading, Origination and wider support functions to develop and lead change projects to enhance the power businesses capabilities. The role requires strong knowledge and expertise in European markets, as well as experience of delivering strategic and operational enhancements to a trading business.

What’s the role?

The primary accountabilities of the Business Management Specialist are:

Change Initiatives

  • Identify and implement strategic initiatives to advance the power capabilities, including but not limited to market access, platform build out, and delivery of strategic initiatives as set by the Power LT
  • Support on the development of standardized products across the Power Business Development sphere
  • Lead on projects to identify the impact of regulatory change, and oversee the implementation of changes to business capabilities as required
  • Be able to contribute high quality, shared understanding of market opportunities, trends, and value potential

Operational Excellence

  • Identify and Drive Life of a Deal performance improvements across the Power Business including the interface to all Power businesses across Shell to drive towards a fully automated Integrated Power Business
  • Champion Operational Excellence, and along with IT and the Functions, alleviate current pain points and look to make the LoaD more efficient, including via the use of digital solutions
  • Champion the use of data and KPIs to monitor performance and drive improvements.
  • Work with the wider functions to streamline and enhance processes around KYC, Market Risk, Finance and settlements, embedding simplification and standardisation

Control & Business Support

  • Work with SEEA Gas and EPT teams to drive simplification in process for new business development approvals while ensuring relevant controls are in place
  • Partner with the control functions (BIA, Risk) to ensure risk control frameworks are understood and implemented effectively, as well as identifying opportunities to enhance controls
  • Coordinate across the trading desks to ensure control frameworks are understood and processes are kept up to date (KYC, regulatory reporting etc.)

What we need from you

  • Strong background in European power markets, with a good knowledge of trading, PPAs and flex contracts
  • Significant experience in commercial or operational roles within the European power trading or the origination sphere
  • Practical experience across the deal lifecycle with a solid understanding of controls

Skills and Attributes

  • Proactive approach and mind set to propose and drive improvement and changes
  • Experience and appreciation of purposeful collaboration, working with a range of stakeholders to drive meaningful change
  • Ability to independently structure and lead change projects from initial scoping through to delivery
  • Expertise to analyse business problems within a trading environment, and identify suitable solutions
  • Scalability & Robustness: drive step change in these facets of business performance
