Programme Manager – Trading & Supply

The Trading and Supply team are seeking a highly experienced programme manager to run the IT delivery of our commodity derivatives trading platform, DownStream eXchange (DSX). DSX aims to be Shell’s strategic one-stop pricing, electronic trading & straight-through processing platform for all its exchange traded derivative activity globally (ETD). This is a highly ambitious programme which requires integration and planning across multiple businesses, stakeholders and technology platforms to deliver with quality but at the speed of our world class trading organisation.
The DSX programme is part of Oil Products and Low Carbon Fuels Trading & Supply which plays a crucial role for Shell – supporting current commercial aspirations while enabling our Net Zero Energy Transition Strategy. Products Trading & Supply is the single interface between Shell’s downstream businesses and the global refined oil market. We trade over 8m barrels of physical oil per day through our global markets from various production sites, and handle 6m barrels per day of refined products, supplying over 44,000 Retail Sites and 2,500 B2B customers. We have an exciting Informational and Digital Technology (IDT) agenda with Products increasing their share of low carbon fuels / solutions to support decarbonization of our customers’ energy consumption and generating cash to support our broader low carbon investments.
What’s the role
As the IT Programme Manager - Trading and Supply, you will lead the DSX project that requires excellence in stakeholder partnership, strategic planning, return on investment, and business outcome attainment while growing the capabilities and effectiveness of the team. It is imperative that the individual has credibility with senior stakeholders in the Trading & Supply organisation by having significant experience in Trading exchanges & technologies (ETRM, WebICE, TrayPort, ICE, NYMEX, EEX, Bloomberg, Platts etc.) and Trading processes (Exchange trading, Derivatives trading, Algorithmic trading, Mark to Market, P&L, Exposure management, Value At Risk etc.).
What we need from you
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Commodity Trading & Price Risk Management experience or Capital Markets / Investment Banks – to bring credible externalisation of mindset and approach and ensure we are cost: value competitive
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience of scaled agile delivery lead experience, especially working across multiple lines of business in a complex Energy/Commodity derivatives trading business
Firsthand experience of how competing external marketplace products are delivered, scaled and supported (Bloomberg, Trayport Internal Marketplace, FIX, TT OMS, Commodity Trading in-house developed)
Personal experience of successfully delivering scalable algorithmic trading technology in a compliant and flexible way. Experience of Algo regulation, audit and compliance (e.g. MIFID2 & RTS6) is highly desirable
Experience in a commodity derivatives environment with demonstrable IT product/application delivery in this space
A minimum of 15 years’ experience in Project or Product delivery with the following accountabilities:
Plan, execute, monitor, control, and close all aspects of the project lifecycle
Quickly earn the trust of commercial sponsors and key stakeholders by understanding and partnering on their strategic priorities. Find ways of working compatible with professional IT delivery and commercial trading excellence
Mobilize, grow and lead a team with the necessary experience, mindset and skills - composed of a mixture of staff and suppliers across organisational boundaries.
Creating executive-level communications
Proven resilience and persistence to flourish in a high opportunity, high reward Trading environment
Balance execution efficiency with risk mitigation, value delivery, cost, and quality
Understand integration between project goals and business context when responding to challenges and change
Rigorously manage scope through a structured change management process to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed time, cost, and quality parameters with focus on delivering the business benefits
Create and validate financial forecasts and provide ongoing reconciliation of resources and expenditures
Ensure appropriate stakeholder change and communication plans and engagements are developed and executed
Proactively analyse variances against plan to assess trends threatening agreed scope, time, cost, and quality commitments. Identify signs that a project may be at risk and escalate quickly and appropriately
Apply Shell project management and IT control/assurance methodologies, standards and processes including architecture, information risk management, and transition to support
