The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Market Risk function within the Shell Trading based in London. An ideal role for a Market Risk Analyst who will have the chance to oversight risk management activities over the T&S Crude Oil Physical and Financial Derivatives business.

The Risk Analyst role will manage risk identification: model & portfolio assumptions and market inputs, pricing issues and drive understanding of the design and utilization of Value at Risk, Stress Testing, and Scenario Analysis for the Crude business in London.

This role will also identify, develop, and implement systems efficiencies and reporting capabilities for the risk books, partnering within other Crude team members to align best practices across the Global Crude business. This role will have direct reporting to the Global Head of Market Risk Crude, also supporting other Crude businesses outside London where applicable.

What’s the role?

As a Senior Market Risk Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring that day to day risk management activities surrounding the STASCO T&S Crude organization are executed in a controlled and professional manner. By this, you will ensure that all trading activities remain within the mandated exposure and risk limits, exposures properly recorded using establish fair value methodologies and daily commentary must be produced in analysing daily and monthly P&L Performance.

You’ll work closely with the Credit and Enterprise Risk Teams to ensure trading risks and returns are fully understood, captured and challenged where necessary. On a wider level, you can look forward to a role that will enable you to work with risk leads for all parts of the risk management spectrum.

More specific responsibilities include:
  • Assess the risks associated with structured deals and the valuation models used for physical/financial trading and hedging
  • Assist in limit setting and monitoring of STASCO Crude business
  • Drive understanding of the design and utilization of methodologies to assess risk/reward of the portfolio (VaR Back-Testing/Stress Testing/Scenario Analysis/Pricing for Liquidity
  • Collaborate with IT and other teams to identify, develop and implement systems efficiencies and reporting capabilities for risk books
  • User testing of systems functionality and enhancements while providing feedback to key stakeholders
  • Support the review and execution of SOX controls
  • Partner with and provide support to other Crude Market Risk Teams
  • Provide input for the quarterly Global Crude Risk Committee meetings

What we need from you

A highly self-motivated, with strong communication skills and an outgoing and confident personality. You’ll also have strong business analysis skills, modelling capabilities, research and problem-solving skills and computer skills. We’re keen to speak from individuals with prior experience in trading operations particularly in market risk.

We expect you’ll call on your degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Engineering, Sciences or IT, Masters or PhD is a plus. Also, we’d hope your CV will also show your proficiency in some programming languages like R and Python, SQL would be an advantage.

You are an experienced team player flexible to work across numerous time zones with both Market Risk Teams in other locations, but equally the Shell Business Operations Centre in India.

In addition to the above, we’d hope you possess the following attributes:
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Awareness of trading influences, deal structures and types, interpreting positions, P&L, market to market, trading reporting regulations, financial and management reporting, position reporting and financial analysis
  • Excellent senior stakeholder management skills
  • Energy Trading Risk Management experience
