
Senior Technical Lead–Quant Engineering
What’s the role
As the Senior Software Engineer, you will join our team within Shell Energy Trading which is at the forefront of our Powering Progress Strategy. The Shell Energy is a fast-moving environment where gas, power, environmental products, renewables and energy solutions all come together. We are home to Shell’s global LNG Marketing and Trading business and to Shell’s Gas and Power trading businesses in Asia, Australia, Americas and Europe & Africa.
What you’ll be doing
This hands-on technical role aims to deepen Shell’s development capability in all parts of the stack, be it DevOps, Databases, Backend logic or front end. You will be responsible to support & help drive the vision for software engineering technologies and processes across product teams and leading high-performance engineering teams.
Your responsibilities include:
Help build, nurture and grow high performance teams using Agile Engineering principles
Act as a technical leader sharing own experiences, insights and energy, adopting a hands-on approach, and thrives in uncertainty when needed
Relationship Management: Role-models, champions, and advocates for collaborative and open ways of working and behaviours built on trust and driven by empathy
Works independently under minimal managerial supervision. Diagnoses and solves significant, complex and non-routine problems; translates practices from elsewhere (other markets, countries and industry) and provides authoritative, technical recommendations which have a significant impact on business performance in short and medium term
Provides hands on technical leadership within a product team
Gets energy from motivating others to success
What you bring
Proven technology leadership. Hands-on mastery proficiency in Golang & Python, Data Development (SQL Databases, No SQL, Cloud Datastores etc.) as well as Cloud Native Platform Development with Azure Services
Extensive domain and technical expertise with experience of developing flex trading tools and solutions on an Azure cloud platform
Deep expertise with (battery) asset control and scheduling use cases and managing telemetry data
Gas/Power Trading knowledge - Short-term trading, physical assets trading (CCGT, Wind, Solar, Battery)
Expertise in Risk - Modelling & comprehensive understanding of risk management
Extensive experience in Commodity Modeling - Specializing in energy (power, gas, environmental products) and meteorology
Knowledge of Information Management, data strategy and governance
Commercial skills in Value Assurance, Value estimation and Realization, end-to-end value mapping
Proven excellent communication skills, internally and externally, to management levels and a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
High emotional intelligence, integrity and trustworthiness
