Enhancing the Shell Counterparty (CP) experience whilst upholding our ethical and regulatory standards is at the heart of this role.   

Reporting into the Re-Review Senior Team lead, you will have responsibility for a range of activities including undertaking risk reviews and outreach for CDD counterparties.

You will work closely with stakeholders at various levels within our Lines of Business (LOBs) and Compliance to identify the most appropriate next steps given the outcome of the re-review/outreach activity, as well as highlight ways in which the processes may be made more effective, to enable us to improve our processes and services and to deliver a better customer experience.

Shell Trading and Supply (T&S) is one of the largest energy trading operations in the world. With over 7000 employees operating across the globe to support our world class integrated trading and supply value chain, we support the Shell group through trading environmental products, biofuels, power, LNG, chemical feedstocks, crude oil, refined products and freight in trading hubs all over the world with the main trading and marketing locations in Houston, London, Dubai, Rotterdam and Singapore.  

The Commercial Operations organization within T&S operates in 9 trading hubs, 4 key SBO locations, with over 1360 people supporting 35 countries. It is designed to improve T&S cross business execution including both ‘run the business capabilities’ e.g. trading operations support and ‘change the business capabilities’. This is achieved through enhanced business transformation activities such as a joint data and digital team, project delivery team and Centre of Excellence.    

The Process, Data, Systems Team team is focused on ensuring a lens of the customer across all touchpoints of the Life of a Deal. Counterparty Life Cycle Management (CLCM) is the onboard touchpoint (including a wealth of things in addition to new onboarding), delivering an excellent service to our Counterparties whilst ensuring that we maintain high ethical standards and adherence to compliance requirements every step of the way.  

You will be part of our Counterparty Life Cycle Management (CLCM), a team of professionals who are passionate about enhancing our ability to trade with counterparties whilst maintaining our compliance and ethical standards.  

What is the Role? 

As the Re-Reviews Team Lead, you will lead a team of Re-review analysts in the day-to-day management of risk review and counterparty outreach.  

More specifically, the role will require you to: 

  • Manage a team of focals for periodic and trigger-based Re-Reviews.

  • Act as the subject-matter-expert in the first line of defense (LOD1) for Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Risk in relation to Re-Reviews of all T&S counterparties, and third-party service providers in Operations. 

  • Engage and manage stakeholders such as Compliance in the second line of defense (LOD2), and the Lines of Business. 

  • Day to day management of your team to complete Re-reviews and counterparty outreach within agreed timeframes and quality standards 

  • Engage stakeholders for feedback to continually improve the management and delivery of counterparty KYC 

  • Support and drive continuous improvement and innovation initiatives as part of the overall Counterparty Lifecycle Management (CLCM) programme 

  • Implement T&S KYC Standards, and associated policies and processes for Re-Reviews through subordinate procedures.

  • Escalate concerns and provide an independent view and voice.

  • Facilitate Re-Reviews meetings, lead presentations, and communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively across a range of stakeholders/perspectives. 

  • Ensure clear and frequent reporting of relevant management information to the leadership team.

  • Work to tight deadlines and often under pressure;

  • Act as a subject matter expert and assist Re-Review Analysts on daily operational activities.

  • Act as a mentor and coach other Analysts.

  • Be an active and effective member of the Financial Crime team.

What We Need from You? 

You will have experience of Counterparty Due Diligence and Outreach and a firm understanding of how activities may be integrated to make the inquiry process as efficient as possible for all stakeholders and customers.

Within the role, you will use your expertise to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies, as well as translate large quantities of data into meaningful information for internal customers, whilst operating in a fast-paced environment

You should be able to engage effectively across all levels of the T&S organization and other areas of the business as required.

You will be able to inspire the people in your team to work towards practical goals that have a real impact on our counterparties’ experience of doing business with Shell. 

Furthermore, you will have: 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing a team.

  • Experience of working in Counterparty Lifecycle Management/ Financial Crime / KYC processes. Extensive knowledge of global financial crime regulation and legal requirements.

  • Experience in Tier 1 Financial Institutions (Wholesale, Commercial/Corporate, Investment Banking) and/or large Commodities or Trading Houses (Oil, Energy) would be highly valuable. 

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop and drive performance and encourage positive team dynamics.

  • Robust written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization, both internally and externally, and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Effective communication skills, as well as robust analytical skills, especially the ability to identify cause-effect relationships, patterns, implications of data, and be able to integrate pieces into a meaningful conclusion.

  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills to manage relationships across different businesses and functions. 

  • Exhibit resilience at work. Be able to meet tight deadlines often under pressure. 

  • Self-starter who can work independently demonstrating personal drive and taking own initiative. 

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team. 

  • Some knowledge of Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Portuguese or Mandarin language would be advantageous.
