
Senior Team Lead – Piping Design
Purpose & Accountabilities
Technical Leadership:
• Accountable for ensuring process excellence in all sub-process areas within Piping Design & Engineering.
• Providing expert guidance and technical support to the piping design team, resolving complex engineering challenges.
• Provide steer in relevant project deliverables for various stages of a project (e.g. Project Premise Document, Basis for Design, Basic Design and Engineering Package, Equipment list, Equipment datasheets, Engineering drawings, piping GAD, P&ID, 3d Models, stress analysis etc.)
• Knowledgeable in pipe material specification, valve material specification, piping general arrangement, piping isometrics, plot plan, layouts, equipment general arrangement, pipe supports, piping stress analysis using software such as CAESAR-II etc.
• Assist in the integration and application of Piping Design Engineers into the natural asset or project team.
• Discuss and align with various Project or Asset managers to make centralize TAO remote piping designers pool concept to realization.
• Support Piping Design & Engineering pool in capability development and Assessment.
• Oversee the development and implementation of innovative piping design solutions to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensure the integration of advanced technologies and methodologies in piping design to support Shell's sustainability and net-zero emissions goals.
• Drive Replication concept to all other supporting assets which includes having TAO Execution BPG for Piping Design & Engineering work scope.
• Collaborate with P&T Piping engineers, site Piping leads/technical authorities & OEMs/Vendors etc. for the development of standard work instructions, best practices (inclusive of TAO Execution BPGs), Global norms, etc while ensuring adherence to industry standards and Shell's technical requirements.
People Management:
• Ensure the teams are high performing, passionate and cohesive. STL will manage a team with multiple complexity work scope (about 10-15 staff in total).
• Ensure that staff have the right competencies to execute the work.
• Coach on technical topics, processes and tools. Mentor staff on individual development.
• Inspire and develop the staff & specialists throughout the team.
• Ensure that the Competency Management Framework (CMF) is kept up to date with developments elsewhere in Shell. Manage the training budget for the team.
• Create and foster a strong team spirit with learner mindset & safety culture.
• Ensure that staff have a pleasant working environment.
• Conduct regular huddles and meetings involving all team members.
Operational delivery:
• Accountable for operational delivery and performance within the team.
• Ensure that the teams deliver on time, with required quality control and continuous improvement. Ensure that value delivery is high in the team’s agenda.
• Perform regular quality checks and actively monitor progress. Actively manage the overall team KPI’s and look for opportunities to standardize.
• Ensures that utilization of staff & specialists is actively managed, and an appropriate balance is maintained in providing customers with long relationships with staff and development opportunities for staff.
• Ensure the team are compliant with applicable standards, guidelines and applicable local requirements.
• Coordinate and deliver the recruitment and onboarding activities.
• Ensure that the trained resources are effectively deployed & the KPIs & deliverables are closely monitored & improved.
• Ensure that billing, time-writing and expense claims are executed in a timely manner.
• Collaborate effectively within TAO & other teams (Ops Support, P&T, IT, CP and other teams).
Provide steer and direction:
• Provide clarity and direction to the team using GPA & other strategic and tactical business plans.
• Coach/Mentor staff and facilitate their Development Plans in alignment with business requirements.
• Provide the technical steer for assigned workstream(s)
• Enable the usage of supporting technologies /IT tools.
• Encourage the teams to have a clear asset-centricity & delivery focus.
Support Account, Migration, Portfolio, Quality & Talent management:
• Support the Deployment and Capability leads in managing various activities related to Accounts, Migrations, Portfolio, Quality Assurance & Talent Development.
Ensure compliance:
• Ensure that activities are executed in line with Shell’s policies & standards. (Data privacy/protection, HSSE&SP, DEP, AMS processes & others).
• Ensure timely preparation of CTRs/TORs for proven work & ensure compliance to commercial, Tax, HR & Legal requirements.
Dimensions
Business Dimensions:
• The role will be reporting to Technical Operations Manager – Engineering & Projects, who reports to GM Asset Care.
• Managing (up to 15 total) Team members that includes engineers & Technical Specialists.
• Manage multiple stakeholders, namely various business partners in C+P, Integrated Gas and Upstream, and RES assets with other corporate businesses/ functions as well as internal peers & Leadership Teams at multiple levels.
Skills & Requirements
Education & Experience:
• University Degree(preferred) in Mechanical/ Metallurgical/ Materials or equivalent engineering discipline with preferably 12 plus years of work experience in Projects, Engineering, Maintenance in Mechanical Static & Piping workstream in Oil & Gas/ Petrochemicals or any equivalent Industries.
• Technical field experience onsite. Relevant certifications are an advantage.
• Experience in leading Mechanical Static / Piping Design Improvement Projects onsite and large teams in a virtual environment. A track record in building and sustaining teams.
• Experience of leading change in complex, multi assets/portfolio environments and a track record in building, influencing and sustaining natural teams.
• Able to demonstrate in depth technical knowledge & required skill sets for the role (as per TAO competency framework).
• Able to proactively manage a wide range of stakeholders at different seniority levels and experience working across different cultures.
• Solid experience in program management and facilitating continuous improvement.
