The Role

Finance Operations (FO) Data Contracts and Procurement (CP) enables Contracting & Procurement become the Commercial Powerhouse of Shell with innovative data solutions. The Senior Process Specialist – Data C&P will be a key player in achieving this through strengthening partnerships in our E2E teams; liberating more value from operational excellence and digitalisation; and by developing happy, talented, motivated and trusted people.

As a champion for digitalisation and ideas, the Senior Process Specialist will strategize and lead the improvement of performance of data operations and processes by developing and implementing improvements to standards, quality, process design, execution, tools and/or integration; and by engaging and partnering with a wide array of key stakeholders. The role will analyze problems not only with deep data area expertise, but also with broad knowledge of Shell’s CP processes, business requirements and with data management theory and best practice. This role sits within Operational Excellence (OE) team to lead and drive delivery of OE key focus areas which include, but are not limited to, Digitalisation, Management Information (MI), Data Quality, Learning, CP systems & processes improvements and roll-outs; and the Materials, Services, Vendor and Contracts (MSVC) process areas.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Process Improvements
  • Subject Matter Specialist that analyses processes with a solid understanding of data area. Improve performance of Data operations and the end-to-end data process by developing and implementing improvements to process design, execution, tools and roles.
  • Analyse process performance and data quality metrics to identify improvement project opportunities.
  • Responsible for ensuring upon a change of process design, all procedures and tool updates are made in an effective, efficient and properly tracked and documented manner. Ensure learning journey is effective and helps operational staff truly leverage the best and latest of knowledge, tools and procedures.
  • Proactively propose improvements to existing process, procedures, workflow design and reports based on experience and practical observation for further benefit opportunities.
  • Continuously and proactive coach Performance Unit (PU) teams to ensure improvements in process areas and ways of working.
  • Develop as a Super User and actively participate in the integrated support model
2. Technical Improvements
  • Technical subject matter expert for workflow/automation tools across business and ERP divisions.
  • Responsible for providing technical leadership to the team in ensuring workflow/automation tools are efficient, reliable, properly designed, implemented and continuously improved. Initiate appropriate measures in cases of failures to avoid loss of business benefits.
  • Implement improvements by preparing and / or reviewing detailed requirements and process documentation then testing and rolling out procedures and tools. Drive change by training and coaching PU staff on procedures.
  • Solve problems by analysing processes, data and systems to detectively trace the cause and gather the evidence to support correct solution decision. Assess priority based on potential impact and advise PU to act with appropriate timeliness to resolve current issue.
3. Digitalisation, MI, Data Quality and Reporting
  • Champion for Digitalisation agenda and ideas within CP Data and drives projects and initiatives to achieve digitalisation goals and objectives. Collaborate with other key stakeholders (CP I&I, Data Science, Data Analytics etc. teams) to jointly drive the agenda.
  • Develop Management Information (MI) and KPIs that are fit-for-purpose, meaningful with the ability to drill down to the lowest and highest level to provide key insights to different stakeholder groups to drive impact and performance.
  • Collaborate with PU teams to actively generate the required insights from data & information but focuses on strategy building and implementation
  • Analyse data quality and process performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities. Draft project charters with clear scope and goals and solid benefits in line with standards.
  • Deliver projects that are fully aligned with business priorities. Manage timeline, scope and application of project tools in line with relevant project methodology to achieve benefits quickly.
  • Application of new techniques to drive reporting operations to insights e.g. Data Profiling, Data Analytics, Process Analytics, Cost of Poor Data Quality (automated fashion), Low Cost Automation (Robotics, and End User Computing).
4. People
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Process Specialists, Specialists in the team and PU teams. Stand-in for OE Global Process Manager as and when required.
  • Empower Process Specialists, Specialists and junior staff to take charge of their own performance.
  • Role model the right behaviour (aligned with CP Data Values) and play to help the team to succeed.
  • Engage and partner effectively across CP Data and externally with CP and FO stakeholders
  • Lead and coordinate the roll-out of Learning Journey, create content required for Learning Journey and help ensure effective learning experience for PU teams.

  • Global C&P Data Operations supporting all C&P businesses and operating units
  • Supports Strategic planning and change management in delivery of C&P Data Excellence & Improvement projects
  • Develop Process Specialists and Specialist to achieve Top Quartile performance

  • Minimum 8-10+ years Business/Finance/Commerce/IT/Engineering skill pool experience
  • Experiences in Master Reference Data, SAP modules, or demonstrated understanding of data management principles are desirable
  • Experience and proficiency in MS Office applications like MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience with Data Management and Strategy for Global Processes, Systems and Tools.
  • Exposure to Process Improvements and Transformation projects.
Qualities/ Attributes:
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, and able to interact and negotiate.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and ensure delivery of priorities, work without close supervision, work through others to deliver results.
  • Virtual working experience highly desirable.
  • Senior Process Specialist might be expected to take on additional process areas/ responsibilities that differs from initial assignment (depending on business requirements). Hence, flexibility and willingness to extend beyond norm is expected.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well in a team

  • Consumer centricity and commercial curiosity mindset, willingness to stretch and grow, being resilient, focused on continuous improvement and result orientation
