What’s the role

Shell is seeking a Production Manager to join the Michigan City Leadership Team, as well as the SC&T Extended Manufacturing Leadership Team.

The Production Manager will ensure high-quality, efficient, and safe operations of all production and shipping activities at the SC&T – Michigan City plant, supporting a 24/7 Catalyst manufacturing operation. The Production Manager supervises the Production Team Leads, the Shipping & Logistics Supervisor, and all the Operators and Shippers reporting to them

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, Shell Catalysts & Technologies, and Shell policies and standards

  • Reduce HSSE risks by reporting and investigating incidents, and by correcting hazards 

  • Create and foster a culture that is self-sustaining in meeting Shell’s long-term business objectives

  • Develop and challenge the production and shipping department employees to maximize their contributions, accomplishments, and job satisfaction

  • Manage the Production and Shipping / Supply Chain functions to achieve overall objectives in HSSE, operational excellence, financial performance, technology, customer service, and people/winning team

    • Responsible for achieving annual production volumes of 50+ MM lbs of quality products within a $250+MM NIBIT business

    • Responsible for shipping these products globally as ordered and on-time (includes Belgium, China and several plants within the USA) to satisfy both internal and external customers

    • Responsible for setting up and managing annual production and shipping / Supply Chain OpEx budgets / spend of approximately $5MM annually

  • Prioritize operational activities and deploy resources in support of risk management

  • Provide production capability to deliver timely and defect-free products to customers that conform to mutually agreed specifications

  • Set departmental goals and objectives and ensure direction and priorities are clearly established and followed

  • Manage shutdowns and product changeovers in a safe and efficient manner

  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of Continuous Improvement activities. This includes suggesting changes to guidelines and procedures and policies, as well as supporting the implementation of them

  • Supervises team leaders and communities

  • Acts as an expert with broad and deep knowledge in own field of expertise requiring a command of diverse practices, theories and sophisticated concepts and their application in business processes

  • Discipline activities concentrate on non-standard topics (guided by procedures or multiple precedents)

  • Manages the relations with multiple (groups of) internal and external stakeholders on a tactical level. Scale and severity of consequences if things go wrong are limited, involving some stakeholder management

  • Suggest changes to the guidelines and policies and supports implementation

  • Frequently consulted as a specialist within the department

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred or any other related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or production management, along with leadership experience

  • Extensive knowledge of chemical manufacturing equipment or catalyst technology and processes

  • Extensive knowledge of Management of Change elements, including Process Change Authorizations and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews

  • Demonstrated skill in Continuous Improvement

  • Experience working under Quality Management Systems

What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $146,000 - $218,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.       

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
