
Maintenance Team Lead
Join Shell Polymers Monaca, a world-scale petrochemical plant that transforms locally produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations into polyethylene. Our facility includes a state-of-the-art Ethane Cracker Unit (ECU), multiple polyethylene (PE) units, PE logistics, and supporting OSBL (utilities, general facilities, storage, and hydrocarbon logistics).
What’s the role
As a Maintenance Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our static and rotating equipment, leading a dedicated team, and driving continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of 6-15 Shell craft to execute maintenance activities
Work closely with contractor foremen to ensure effective utilization of contract technicians
Act as a recognized specialist in static and rotating equipment within the department
Distribute and discuss daily jobs with craft, manage unplanned work, and coordinate break-in jobs
Review the need for and arrange overtime as needed, identify delays, and manage craft issues
Promote craft development and flexibility, ensuring compliance with standards and codes
Periodically check and validate the completion and quality of work
Participate in the hiring process by interviewing prospective employees
Understand, support, and deliver relevant aspects of the Maintenance Execution Process
Continuous Improvement:
Work closely with craft team members to identify opportunities for improvement
Constantly seek ways to improve cost-effectiveness
Provide feedback to improve preventative maintenance plans and drive reliability
Training & Craft Development:
Ensure craft team members have the proper skills to manage and execute their assigned work
Act as a qualified assessor, evaluating each craft team member to ensure skill level competency
Other Responsibilities:
Provide 24/7 staffing during temporary shutdowns or outages, support the Major Maintenance team, and serve as a Volunteer Emergency Response Team Member
Ensure all documentation is maintained, history is captured in SAP, and feedback is provided to the planning team via SAP
Personnel Attributes:
Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
Ability to mentor and develop team members
Effective stakeholder management across disciplines, production, and maintenance
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US
You must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing maintenance field execution
High school graduate/GED is required. An associate degree or higher is beneficial but not required
Strong understanding of Maintenance Execution (ME) work processes and other Shell Work Processes (RCM, EI, IPF, etc.)
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to deliver results through others
Prior experience managing union-based employees is desired but not required
Skilled in the use of SAP (CMMS) and proficient in MS-Word, Excel, Outlook
Strong background in static and rotating equipment and major unit/equipment outage activities. Maintenance experience at SPM is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability as a team player, willing to offer and accept challenges and feedback
Able to perform work with little or no supervision
Able to lead a group of employees and work one-on-one to achieve business objectives
Able to manage multiple tasks

Must be able to work in an industrial environment, occasionally climbing ladders and stairs to access process equipment
Your expected field time is approximately 30-50%
Expected travel is 0-10%, depending on training or other site needs
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $101, 000 - $150, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
