One of the newly created opportunities is Operations Engineer - Polyethylene Gas (also known as Operations Support Engineer – Polyethylene Gas Phase internally) which will provide you with an opportunity to be a key part of the Team at a brand new, world-scale Polyethylene facility.

As an Operations Support Engineer - Polyethylene Gas Phase, you will engage in design and asset optimization activities that require a solid understanding of process engineering, guided by established standards and procedures. This team member will have the opportunity to design new process units, retrofit existing assets, troubleshoot, and optimize processes, which involve integrating other disciplines such as economics, utilities, and process control. Identifying areas for improvement in existing methodologies and suggest changes is a key focus of this role.

This team member integrates activities from related disciplines to ensure safe delivery, encompassing all aspects of HSSE (personal/process safety and environment), while being fit for purpose and cost-value optimized. They also manage specified tasks within the design, operation, or maintenance of facilities/plant, collaborating with contractors or third parties and engage oftern with internal and external stakeholders on tactical issues, with the support and guidance from a Senior Process Engineer

More about our Facility:

In 2022, Shell completed construction of its 386-acre petrochemical complex in Potter Township, Beaver County – approximately 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The feat was nearly a decade in the making, with more than four years of construction activity involving approximately 9,500 workers at peak construction.

The plant, Shell Polymers Monaca, will produce an estimated 1.6 million tons of polyethylene pellets used by Shell’s customers to create products that we see and use every day including – common household goods; consumer and food packaging; as well as industrial and utility products.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitor the technical performance of the plants; provide guidance to operations on unit optimization, management of alarms and for provision of cost-effective technical solutions to constraints and emerging problems

  • Identify, plan and realize improvement opportunities proactively and in response to a changing business environment

  • Provides and approves technical documentation to ensure knowledge retention, continuity, and organizational learning

  • Supports the process engineering Technical Assurance function for Management of Change (MOC) requirements in their assigned area

  • Provide technical guidelines for high-impact events such as unit performance testing, and represent process engineering in PHAs and incident investigations within the assigned area

  • Support long-term strategy planning, provide guidance and leadership to multidisciplinary teams tackling cross-organizational challenges and opportunities, ensure the process team engages with Shell specialists to keep them updated on major unit/system issues and progress, and evaluate the pros and cons of operational changes to improve unit/system performance

  • Prepare or present the technical content of specialized Operator and Craft training

  • Provide effective condition monitoring of assigned units through the implementation of unit monitoring protocols, consistently identifying potential threats and opportunities, and translating these into timely investigations and improvement actions

  • Maintain daily focus on plant operations and align work priorities with both operational and maintenance needs, support production in meeting performance targets, manage alarms effectively at assigned process units, and compile month-end data for performance reviews and analysis, including energy usage, variance analysis, and plan execution

  • Maintain basic data and plant constraint information, contribute to the development of monthly production plans, and support the implementation and maintenance of HSSE critical work processes

  • Support design reviews, safety/risk assessments, and functional value analyses as applicable, and ensure process engineering activities comply with asset integrity - process safety management Standards and recommended practices

  • Collaborate with third-party technical specialists to provide cost-effective and leading-edge technical development and solutions for assigned processing units, and support the implementation of tactics on an as-needed basis

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with preference for Chemical Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, including 3 years at Polyethylene production facilities with Univation Gas-phase reactors or similar

  • Deep experience in operations support, technical process troubleshooting

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, able to effectively interact at all levels of an organization

  • Driven to help turn a world-class facility into a world class performer

The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $182,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.       

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
