Shell Polymers Monaca is a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades locally produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations to make polyethylene.  The petrochemical complex consists of a world-scale Ethane Cracker Unit, Polyethylene Units, Utilities, and Logistics.

The Site is located in the Pittsburgh, PA area (Monaca, PA). 

The Pressure Equipment Integrity Inspector (PEI Inspector) supports run and maintain operations.  The PEI Inspector duties include integrity/regulatory inspections, quality assurance activities, compliance with safety requirements, compliance with regulatory &code requirements, maintaining pressure equipment inspection data base (wIMS), training, development/updating of procedures, etc.  The PEI Inspector provides technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering for pressure equipment. The PEI Inspector works to ensure equipment reliability by providing the Quality Assurance role for Pressure Equipment and performing investigation of failures, determination of root causes, and development of corrective action plans.  The Pressure Equipment Integrity Department focuses on identifying long-term damage mechanisms mitigations, reliability problems and solutions that will minimize failures. Other duties include troubleshooting, preventative maintenance development, history tracking, spare parts identification, and Operations interface / training. 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance in the areas of pressure equipment utilization, operation, and maintenance

  • Support activities meeting the objectives of operating areas

  • Have a strong ownership of the equipment in your area of responsibility

  • Prioritize efforts placing emphasis on activities which improve the safety, environmental, and performance of pressure equipment, improve cost effectiveness of individual repairs, and improve operability of pressure equipment

Health and Safety accountabilities

  • Take leadership in assuring that inspection activities are performed safely and in accordance with the Penn Chem safety policies

  • Provide input into Penn Chem safety, PEI, and maintenance procedures

  • Be Knowledgeable of and audit compliance to Penn Chem Safety and Maintenance Procedures and OSHA regulations

  • Provide guidance for safe work practices and personal protective equipment (PPE) used by inspectors and contractors

  • Investigate pressure equipment incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, write and issue reports, and implement action items as necessary

  • Ensure proper documentation of special operating and maintenance instructions associated with pressure equipment

  • Provide instructions to personnel regarding Process Safety Management-Awareness of and compliance with Process Safety initiatives

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis(PHA) reviews

  • Compliance with all Penn Chem and EPA environmental standards and procedures

Inspection accountabilities:

  • Be Knowledgeable and ensure compliance to the following processes and codes:

  • Shell Asset Management System (AMS) Manage Equipment Care (MEC)

  • MEC RP 04-01 Pressure Equipment Integrity Management

  • API/ASME codes for pressure equipment

  • National Board (NB) codes for pressure equipment

  • Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (PADLI) codes for pressure Equipment

  • Owner-User Inspection Organization Quality Manual for the Inspection of Pressure Vessels & Boilers in the State of Pennsylvania

  • Be Skilled with inspection methods and requirements according API, NB, and PADLI

  • Be Skilled with the use of the wIMS data base and associated documents and drawings

  • Be Knowledgeable in the use of SAP to include work notification entry

  • Be Knowledgeable of asset Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs), Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs), and Design Operating Windows (DOWs)

  • Be Knowledgeable of the Shell Risk Based Inspection (SRBI) process

  • Be Knowledgeable in the use of NDE to include: UT, MT, PT, RT, and Profile RT

  • Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment ie.. UT gauge, Bore scope

  • Support implementation of pressure equipment Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program

  • Manage contractor inspection services daily activities in the unit

  • Take leadership in developing, planning, and executing pressure equipment turnarounds

  • Identify root cause and recommend solutions to pressure equipment problems

  • Troubleshoot pressure equipment problems

  • Maintain pressure equipment files

  • Track pressure equipment reliability in the assigned area and communicate progress

  • Ensure preventative maintenance program procedures are up-to-date

  • Maintain close contact with Production Unit personnel. The inspector is often the primary contact between the production unit and the Pressure Equipment Integrity discipline

  • Assist in the execution of minor projects

  • Provide training to crafts and operators on pressure equipment surveillance and pressure equipment related topics

  • Assure that all Health, Safety, and Environmental Training specified by regulatory agencies and the company is up-to-date

  • Participate in the Pressure Equipment Integrity Department goals and objective process.  

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • High School/GED

  • Must have minimum 5 years’ experience in Petrochemical Pressure Equipment Inspection and/or Pressure Equipment Inspection

  • Must have API510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certificate

  • Must have API570 Process Piping Inspector Certificate

  • Must have National Board Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspector Certificate

  • Must have PA Department of Labor & Industry Boiler & Unfired Pressure Vessel Inspector Certificate

  • NACE Certification related to corrosion mechanisms and mitigations is preferred

  • Has working knowledge of Industry Pressure Equipment Inspection Codes

  • Actively strives to demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with the Penn Chem Behaviors

  • Experience with root-cause analysis is beneficial

  • Proficient in Microsoft suite applications

  • Understands work processes and metrics

  • Knowledgeable in Continuous Improvement and Causal Reasoning processes

  • Familiar with Refining Practices, i.e. Ensure Safe Production (ESP), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Maintenance Excellence (ME)

  • Proficient with SAP

  • Strong organizational & communication skills (written & verbal)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and is able to work well with people at all levels in the organization

  • Possess excellent technical, trouble-shooting, and analytical skills

The base salary range for this position is $101,000- $151,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
