The Shell Polymers Monaca site is a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades locally-produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations gas production to make polyethylene.  The petrochemical complex consists of a world-scale Ethane Cracker Unit (ECU), multiple polyethylene (PE) units, PE logistics and supporting OSBL (utilities, general facilities, storage, and hydrocarbon logistics). Not only is SPM a world-class asset, we are striving for a world-class asset organization. 

This position is critical to the mission of team, and this will promise to be a challenging experience supporting a unique rotating equipment kit; containing extremely high horsepower centrifugal compressors, cryogenic compressors, reciprocating compressors, expanders, gas turbine generators, world class & massive extrusion machinery.  The site also includes API and ANSI pumps, general purpose equipment and auxiliary equipment such as product blower systems and a multitude of dry gas sealing systems.

The position will work in the Engineering group within a combined department consisting of: Engineering, Maintenance, Projects and Turnarounds.  As part of the Penn Chem Plant Asset Team, the position will report to the Rotating Equipment Manager

This position requires strong leadership and technical skills to be successful. In this role, the successful candidate will be involved in a variety of activities in direct support of plant operations, including but not limited to mentoring, accountable for site asset integrity, driving competitiveness, ensure technical capabilities,  lead performance optimization, lead technical efforts on rare & complex problems, work collaboratively with other disciplines, , help to define rotating equipment vision and maintenance mission for machinery , and establish rotating equipment turnaround process.

Accountabilities:

  • Deliver GOAL ZERO in safety, environmental, process safety

  • Support Production Team by providing technical assurance and support for Rotating Equipment

  • Proactive in identifying improvement opportunities and potential threats

  • Support Proactive Condition Monitoring, SMART, vibration monitoring and other condition monitoring platforms/programs for the applicable equipment at SPM

  • Provide discipline technical assurance for site work processes including MOC, ESP, MEC, ME, MTO

  • Technical authority on Management of Change reviews to ensure safe operation and design of equipment and related changes

  • Applies engineering technology to improve safety and environmental related issue

  • Provide coaching and training to REQ team members and maintenance crafts in such areas as troubleshooting, proactive monitoring, PM’s, repairs, and similar for Polymer equipment

  • Provide technical assurance and support to Production Team in order to maintain safe and reliable operations of rotating equipment

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Rotating Equipment and hydrocarbon processing, power generation, or petrochemical manufacturing facility

  • Experience in Polyethylene is a plus

  • Strong rotating equipment and process troubleshooting skills

  • Knowledge of rotating equipment interaction with process, controls, and safeguarding

  • Skilled rotating equipment failure diagnostics skills

  • Use of Industry Standards and Codes like API, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, Hydraulic institute standards

  • Skilled in rotating equipment inspection and repair practices

  • Skilled in guiding operations with system performance

The base salary range for this position is $122,000- $182,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
