Maintenance & Turnaround Engineer
The Role
Position Purpose
What’s the role –
The intent of the Maintenance & Turnaround Engineer role is to gain experience in TA (Turnaround)/Maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution to develop future maintenance leaders. The role will play a strong part in the business planning process, resulting in a working knowledge of benchmarking and competitiveness. Subsequent roles could include Block Coordinator, Discipline Engineer, Maintenance Lead, Construction Lead, and Controls Lead.
- Reports to a SEPCo Deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Maintenance, Turnaround and Construction (MTAC) Excellence Manager, located in New Orleans
- Support planning and execution of events up to about $40 MM.
- Lead business planning efforts that include capital costs for a 10-year projection.
- Create insight for ME process participants through innovative and concise analysis of Maintenance data.
- Demonstrate value of using data-driven decisions within Maintenance to drive improvements.
- Lead long term Maintenance Improvement efforts to reach and sustain mid 2Q MI competitiveness.
The Maintenance & Turnaround Engineer will function in 3 primary areas—MTAC Services, Business Planning, and TA Event Support.
Maintenance, Turnaround and Construction (MTAC) Services
- Provide efficiency and productivity reviews of events, MTAC work processes, and maintenance performance. Identify and champion strategic improvements in controls and execution organizations.
- May be called on to act as Asset Support Lead to oversee maintenance support to production.
- Leverage engineering and maintenance data to provide insight into the Asset’s performance within the Maintenance Execution (ME) process from work identification, prioritization, planning, scheduling, execution, to learning and closure
- Serve as a focal point for developing, understanding, documenting, and improving metrics measuring Assets, process participant performance within ME.
Business Planning
- Focal point for Maintenance and Turnaround (TA) competitiveness (overall index) with respect to McKinsey results analysis and subsequent impact on business plan.
- Coordinates annual effort for Maintenance & TA business planning, working with team leads, production, and cost team to produce a multi-year plan. Includes an integrated TA/non-TA maintenance strategy.
- TA Event Support
Scope and Planning Phases
- Support Event Leads in development of Premise and Event Targets.
- Navitrack Focal Point—helps configure layout for new events, ensure team has access, runs progress reports to feed weekly event leadership update meetings.
- Configure the Planning Metrics
- Facilitate weekly event leadership update meetings to review planning status, Navitrack Actions, risk registry items, and ensure alignment across teams
- Develop Event Dashboard, with the help of TA Event Manager, Cost Leads, and Block Coordinators.
- Act as the TA focal point for Projects Integration, facilitating monthly TA/Projects meetings, ensuring the Projects Checklists are being filled out by owners, there is effective communication between planning and PE’s, and providing leadership a health check on the overall integration effort.
- Serve as TA focal point for MOC List. Ensure PEC’s are receiving TA planning and drafting support during design phase. Keep milestones in front of production team, escalating gaps and concerns to the Unit Manager. Ensure MOCs are fully integrated into schedule with correct sign off steps.
- Support “Tactical Team Meetings” with production.
- Coordinate Addenda Planning—post FID and discovery during execution.
- Support Production/TA readiness with respect to systemization, schedule review, milestone adherence, and package sign off strategies.
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you –
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
- Engineering Degree is required.
- 4+ years varied experience in projects, maintenance and/or turnarounds in an oil refining / petrochemical manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of project and construction controls/execution is preferred.
- Previous production or maintenance support is preferred.
- Go Offshore regularly to help with Maintenance and Turnaround execution and provide assurance
- Knowledge on Microsoft suite of applications…outlook, word, excel, power point, Teams, Onenote, etc.
- Knowledge of key technical software (e.g., Primavera, Navitrack, Power BI) is preferred.
- Ability to influence without formal authority.
- Strong leadership, adaptability, and communication skills are required.
- Previous field execution experience through maintenance support of 24-hour operation or projects construction required
