The Role

What’s the role?

As an Electrical Engineer, you are expected to define and develop the Electrical engineering aspects of the project development and delivery through the project lifecycle for the portfolio of Downstream and New Energy projects in the EMEA region. This role will be pivotal in shaping the project scope and Electrical engineering delivery from early phases of development and driving the competitive scoping ambitions while ensuring we remain credible in our promises across each phase of development.

The position is based in the Netherlands and will require travel to various project sites/locations.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Directly supports projects across the EMEA region and liaison with global teams across other regions
  • Liaise closely with the Business Opportunity Manager, Front End Development Manager, Project Manager and Engineering Manager to lead and deliver activities. Such as the development electrical design philosophies, electrical load lists, single line diagrams, delivering Electrical Safety and Operability (SAFOP) Reviews, power system Analysis, developing Electrical specifications and requisitions and installation, commissioning and start-up support
  • Supports and/or lead innovation ideas for implementation, across projects globally to make Downstream projects; more cost effective and competitive
  • Ensures competitive scope definition and bringing in learnings from Shell and external sources including challenging EPC companies on their design basis
  • Accountable for all electrical engineering development and delivery during various phases of the project
  • Supports the organizational vision, purpose, and value by being part of a strong team with EPC partners in clear alignment around desired project objectives and behaviors
  • Coordinates development of Electrical specific deliverables, including technical writeups for Feasibility reports and Basis for Design and BDEP’s
  • Drives innovation idea generation for competitive and ingenious solutions

What we need from you

The Electrical Engineer must be capable to build a shared vision and deliver through self and others the required scope definition.

The candidate should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree (min) in Electrical Engineering and extensive experience preferably within the Oil & Gas industry
  • Substantial experience with Electrical engineering and extensive working experience in a project environment
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations in the field of Electrical engineering and its sub disciplines
  • Experience working in and/ or supporting projects including brownfield development in a downstream, chemicals, GTL or LNG production environment
  • Experience in guiding and managing EPCM contractors in FEED and detailed engineering phase for the Electrical scope of major downstream projects to achieve quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Proven ability in providing clear and decisive leadership in design choices for competitive outcomes
  • Strong team skills and committed to continuous improvement
  • Ability not only to apply own technical know-how - but to collaborate with other disciplines for improved solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and team working skills
  • Ability to engage and coach EPC discipline staff
  • Ability to effectively balance technical and commercial requirements
  • Interest to develop skills in digitalization and new developments in the industry
