The Role

What’s the role?

The Process Control & Systems department is responsible for Process Automation of all plants on our facility. This includes Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safeguarding / Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Also, a number of supporting systems (e.g., Historian and Advanced Process Control), are managed by the team.

We are looking for a Process Control Domain (IT) Specialist. He/she is knowledgeable in the support, design, configuration, and change of Process Control Systems and their integration into the overall local network (called the Process Control Domain).

This role is particularly focused on the design, configuration, and maintenance of Virtualisation, Networking, Windows and/or Active Directory. Within the wider Process Control & Systems department, you are considered a specialist in one or more of these topics.


  • Provides optimal support and oversees design, configuration, and change related to Virtualisation, Networking, Windows and/or Active Directory as one or more of these topics are your area of expertise. Drives area(s) of expertise to high standards and improve consistency across our site and beyond
  • Provides IT support to the PCD through server system administration, workstation support, network support and break/fix. Performs visits to production units to ensure controls and procedures in place and perform remediation activities as required. Provides after-hours support on an exception basis
  • Develops, maintains and executes any site-specific procedures required to maintain PCD security compliance. Has an overview of security measures implemented and documents all non-compliances
  • Execute day-to-day information security tasks related to infrastructure in PCD Monitor servers, networks and communication equipment using implemented tools, systems and applications (remote access, health monitoring, firewall management etc.)
  • Maintains and backups system configuration for servers and network equipment and ensures backups are stored securely
  • Reviews security logs and provides reports for identifying potential intrusion, and escalates incidents as necessary, ensuring incidents are properly investigated, remediated, reviewed and closed
  • Applies change management controls and testing procedures for network and endpoint security and ensure Business endorsement
  • Project & Discretionary Activities: Acts as a project resource for both local PCD projects/discretionary work and global PCD security projects as demand requires. Provides support on PCD cyber security, network, and PCD system design to projects including architecture, risk assessment, and implementation phases

What we need from you?

  • Skilled in network infrastructure design and implementation, including corresponding industrial components (i.e. OPC, DCOM, Modbus)
  • Familiar with IT and PCD standards like IEC 62443, ISO27001, COBIT and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • Engineering degree or equivalent field/industry experience with experience in IT is an advantage
  • Experience working on a Shell operating asset, PAS/IACSs vendor/supplier or equivalent external industry experience is an advantage
  • Familiar with Shell’s industrial/IT security standards (AMS, DEPs, IRM PCD Risk Profile)
  • Familiarity with Honeywell or Schneider-Electric DCS network concepts is an advantage
  • Self-driven, energetic and eager to learn new skills
