What’s the role

The Prelude FLNG facility is stationed approximately 450 km Northeast of Broome, Western Australia, in Australian Commonwealth Ocean waters of 250 meters depth.  It is one of the first of its kind, comprising of sub-sea wells tied back to a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, which encompasses gas processing and liquefaction through to LNG/LPG/Condensate storage and offloading, with the requisite supporting marine and utilities facilities. 

The Senior Control Systems Engineer is a key member of the Shell team supporting the Prelude FLNG Asset. This position is responsible for control systems engineering operations support. You will develop a close integrated working relationship with all relevant stakeholders across asset’s business functions. You will be responsible for discipline engineering assurance, development and roll out of local technical strategies and support development of technical skills. 

You will work extensively with reliability, integrity assurance, safety critical and production critical tasks, Management of Change and documentation processes to ensure Shell Australia’s business targets are met. For this key role it is also important to note that the incumbent would be required to frequently participate and generate risk assessments, prepare technical datasheets, reports, and technical specifications. The role also works closely with the production support team and maintenance execution team. 

What you’ll be doing

Some of the key deliverables and responsibilities for this role are as follows: 

Primarily based in the Perth office, but with occasional travel to site, the Senior Control Systems engineer will be responsible for a range of duties, including: 

  • Commitment to health, safety and protection of the environment. 

  • Demonstrate safe work practices, take active part in safety meetings, and advise relevant personnel of any non-conforming conditions. 

  • Develop, roll out and maintain a program assuring high reliability of facility Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems. 

  • Implement and maintain ongoing proactive technical monitoring business process for facility Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems. 

  • Perform routine identification of cost reduction and defect elimination opportunities. 

  • Manage lifecycle management process for facility Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems. 

  • Establish systems maintenance spare parts requirements. Support the procurement of these spare parts and set up spare parts management system. 

  • Develop Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems plant changes to achieve improved safety, reliability, and reduced maintenance cost. 

  • Develop SIS changes in full alignment with functional safety lifecycle in accordance with facility practices and standards (AS 61511). 

  • Develop and implement non-engineered overrides in the Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems following requirements of Management of Overrides Management Manual. 

  • Develop and review new brownfield designs & installations in compliance with corporate standards and engineering practices. 

  • Ensure high quality technical advice to operation and maintenance teams which deliver integrity and reliability outcomes. 

  • Conduct and support troubleshooting and investigation of failures utilizing root cause analysis techniques. 

  • Develop major turnaround work scopes and support their execution for Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems. 

  • Development of procedures, and practices. 

  • Ensure that Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems documentation, calculations, software configurations and data are kept up to date. 

  • Maintain cybersecurity of Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems. 

  • Act as Contract Holder for assigned systems vendors maintenance contracts. 

What you bring

If you have these skills, qualifications, specialist competencies, and experience relevant to the petroleum, gas and energy sectors we would love to hear from you. 

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering discipline. 

  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Control Systems Engineer with site experience of an operated Oil & Gas asset. 

  • Proficient and experienced with Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems, interfaces, and protocols, as well as having sound knowledge of measuring methods, field instruments, and actuated valves. 

  • Demonstrated capability to quickly & accurately identify, engineer and execute engineering solutions and own the respective business processes with a hands-on approach.
