Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in Rijswijk is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the Royal Dutch Shell plc group sponsored pension funds and insurance companies and currently manages around USD 100 billion of assets for its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). The company is internationally oriented with clients in 10 different countries and approximately 160 employees. SAMCo’s objective is to provide high quality and cost-effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investment categories such as private equity funds and other investment funds, all over the world. Specific parts of the activities are also outsourced to external managers. Continuous change in financial markets and regulations as well as the diversity of SAMCo’s clients and the products they invest in, make it a professionally challenging environment to work in.
We are currently looking to recruit a Portfolio Manager Emerging Markets Debt to join the Fixed Income department. The Portfolio Manager will be part of the Emerging Markets Sovereign team (one of the three teams within the Fixed Income department) and will primarily focus on management of Emerging Markets sovereign debt portfolios.
The Emerging Markets Sovereign team consists of a Team Lead, two Portfolio Managers and a Sovereign Credit Analyst. The successful candidate will be taking on one of the two Portfolio Manager roles. The team is responsible for managing Emerging Markets debt portfolios consisting of both external and local currency sovereign debt. Depending on client preferences and size of the mandate, these portfolios can either be actively or (semi-)passively managed. The actively managed portfolios pursue both fundamental as well as quantitative strategies with high risk budgets being allocated to each of them. With respect to implementation of strategies, portfolio managers can use a broad range of instruments (bonds, swaps, futures, CDS, FX, etc.). All in all, the team is responsible for managing about EUR 4 billion in assets.
What's the role?
The Portfolio Manager will, together with the other members of the team, focus on the management of several fixed income portfolios with a focus on Emerging Markets debt. The responsibilities include:
The daily management of fixed income portfolios, including the implementation of active investment strategies, monthly rebalancing, portfolio transitions and regular maintenance, taking into account the performance targets and risk profile of client mandates.
Monitoring and analyzing Emerging Market countries to generate investment ideas.
Maintaining and developing quantitative strategies and market monitors.
Contribute to the further development of ESG integration in the investment process.
Contribute to client reporting and client meetings if required.
Acting as a backup for other team members.
Maintaining and extending the current network of contacts, which includes representatives of banks and brokers, senior management representatives of sovereign issuers and global clients.
What we need from you
Master’s degree, preferably in economics or econometrics.
Ideally either holding a CFA or VBA certification or in the process of achieving this.
Relevant experience in working with Fixed Income and FX instruments, including bonds, credit default swaps, interest rate swaps and FX forwards, e.g. as portfolio manager or analyst.
Experience with analyzing Emerging Markets is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work accurately.
Ability to work independently within the context of the EM Sovereign team.
Effective at building relationships, and at influencing and negotiating in a challenging environment.
