What’s the role

The combined Well Services Base Manager and Wells Operations Manager (WOM) role will have direct accountability for the performance of the Completion and Well Intervention- Well services and execution of the Wells Development Medium Land Rig (MLR) scope. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring high quality Well Service and Well Delivery throughout 2025. It involves managing teams ensuring operational execution is managed to the highest standards of both safety and efficiency.

The Well Services department from the Hoogezand Base, primarily executes routine well interventions for approx. 800 onshore wells. Additionally, it handles pre-work scope for the Plug and Abandonment (P&A) campaigns (70 wells/annum). The Well Services department currently consists of a total of 36 staff (NAM staff, Consultant staff and Managed Service contractors).

The MLR Wells scope for 2025, possibly extended into 2026, will be 1-2 Work-overs, 2 P&A wells and 1 new Gas infill well and 2 Water injection wells (pending permits). The MLR team consist of 8 staff. The Hoogezand Base Manager and WOM will ensure optimum utilization of resources, appropriate use of global processes with emphasis on Best-in-Class well delivery and performance improvement in line with NAM adopted Agile ways of working.

The role is based in the Netherlands and will involve internal and external stakeholders to Wells. The incumbent will have a demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries to effectively implement the new ways of working, both within Wells and in multi-disciplinary settings.

The successful candidate will have strong technical engineering and maturation delivery experience in Wells Intervention and Development and good knowledge of CWI operations. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to partake in the NAM Wells week/weekend duty roster to manage the active rig & units outside of regular hours and as such forms part of NAM’s emergency response organization.

*Currently, a review is ongoing towards our CWI Hoogezand Base activities (Incl Staff, Equipment and Services). This review includes various options including outsourcing. A decision is expected mid-2025. In case of outsourcing, this position and the incumbent will be in scope to transfer to the new owner.

What you’ll be doing

Key accountabilities include:

  • Demonstrate a high commitment to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) & provide leadership to CWI Well services and the Wells Intervention and Development campaign execution teams
  • Collaborate with the Asset teams and Production Optimisation teams to support the delivery of the planned Well services scope and activities
  • Ensure that Wells Intervention and Development scope is delivered in a safe and cost-efficient manner
  • Embed a continuous improvement mindset within the integrated CWI and P&A design teams:
    • Coordinate the delivery of cost saving opportunities together with the Well services and P&A execution team
    • Ensure to have a continuous learning mind set by doing an After-Action Review after each execution phase

  • Integrate Process Safety into the detailed well intervention and well construction support for the execution of the onshore CWI and Wells Development operations. Actively promote HSE in all activities and ensure compliance with business principles
  • Stakeholder management. Establish efficient working relationship with NAM internal disciplines including Assets, D&R, Subsurface, Legal, Land and Lease and Senior Management, with future P&A unit and key service contractors, and with external parties including NL regulator (SODM), key vendors, Nexstep and Element NL
  • Champion operational performance improvement initiatives in consultation with the Alliance partners, identify, adopt and implementation of the franchise Operational Standard Practices and Engineering Standard practices in the detailed drilling programs
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for team members to deliver best-in-class performance. Provide coaching feedback to help develop others and self
  • Appointed as Contract Owner for multiple contracts

What you bring

  • Masters, Bachelor’s degree or HND/HTS in Engineering or Physical Science
  • Extensive Experience and a proven track record in CWI and Well Engineering operations, particularly in Well delivery
  • IWCF Level 4 Well Control certified
  • HSE Critical Position
  • Proven project cost control experience in a well's environment
  • Proven track record in improving bottom line through wells improvement initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder integration and influencing skills. Proven ability to build relationships effectively and to deliver across multiple teams and disciplines
  • Strong Diversity and Inclusions values and skills
  • Good understanding and experience of onshore wellhead and Christmas tree systems is a pre
  • Candidate will ideally have previous experience of working in a highly scrutinized regulatory environment
  • Experience in activities in Netherlands is required due to specific tight NL regulatory environment framework
  • Fluent Dutch is a prerequisite for the Base Manager’s role
  • Knowledge of Dutch mining law and good command of the Dutch language is a pre due to the frequent required interaction and communication with the Dutch regulator
