
Environmental Advisor
What’s the role
As a member of the Shell Malaysia Exploration & Production’s (SMEP) HSSE team, reporting to the Environment Manager, you will join a competent team of advisors, bringing deep environmental expertise and insights. Your role will be crucial to drive SMEP’s agenda in line with Shell's Powering Progress Strategy of Respecting Nature and Achieving Net Zero Emissions, in addition to compliance with the Shell Performance Framework / SEAM Standards related to the environment.
What you’ll be doing
Your accountabilities as an Environmental Advisor will be to:
- Provide environment support and input to Assets & Projects on permitting and legal regulatory requirements as well as Shell internal environmental standards as per SEAM Standards.
- Support the Shell Respecting Nature Framework in managing risks for Biodiversity, Water, Waste & Circularity, Air Quality and Collaboration & Reporting.
- Contributes to Achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by collaborating with the Natural Carbon Team and the wider Asset Team to deliver GHG (Greenhouse Gas) reporting and mitigating actions.
- Prepare (or contribute to) various environmental studies such as impact assessment screening, scoping studies, environmental risk assessments for various asset projects working with environmental consultants.
- Coordinate post-EIA environmental monitoring of offshore fields, onshore site environmental monitoring, offshore produced water quality monitoring as required and prepare submissions to DOE on environmental monitoring reports, etc.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the relevant parts of the Environment Management System, including updating of key controlling documents.
- Participate in Shell internal ISO 14001 & GHG Data Verification audits, including site verification.
- Participate in oil spill organization in case of a large oil spill requiring clean up.
- Conduct awareness sessions on various Environmental topics to the Line as required.
What you bring
We hope to see these in your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification is often preferred.
- Working experience in Oil and Gas, either in Upstream, Exploration and/or Projects.
- Has 3-5 years’ experience in an environmental advisory role.
- Knowledge of industry-specific environmental regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage priorities, balance multiple objectives and cope with occasionally high levels of stress.
- Strong and effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
