Production Support Engineer
Where you fit in:
Opportunity to be in a high-impact role influencing Asset performance by implementing the daily production plan in a safe, stable and economically-optimised manner. The role offers excellent opportunity to deepen understanding of the asset’s technical capacity and constraints, to hone communication skills with different disciplines in the company as well as external stakeholders and to develop core competence in Production Engineering.
What's the role:
The main purpose of the role is to deliver:
- Optimised field production performance and technical integrity specifically for the individual wells, the offshore field and its network of integrated production systems.
- Smooth interface between Production Operations, other asset functions, and external stakeholders such as PBOCC for Sarawak/KBB for Sabah, to deliver a stable daily production plan and a robust closed improvement loop (plan, execute, review & improve). This integration role will be particularly important in identifying, following up and assuring appropriate delivery of production opportunities to maintain or improve, product flow from the wells, through offshore and onshore processing facilities and finally to the point of custody transfer.
- The collation and analysis of data, ensuring correct procedures are adopted and followed. This is achieved through the maintaining and validating, reporting and improving the quality of product flow data including deferments; re-injection rates and associated streams and exports; from the well bore through the integrated production system to the custody transfer point of a company, asset or sub-asset, in a cost effective, efficient, optimal and safe manner.
- Provide technical coaching on production support to junior Production Support Engineers in the team.
The basic accountabilities and functions of the role are as follows:
1) Surveillance and DPR (Daily Production Review)
- Day to day optimization of production per daily plan (e.g. Gas Delivery Schedule for Sarawak fields). Troubleshoot under-delivery against daily plan.
- Ensure that any day-to-day and longer-term production issues are captured at an early stage and ensure actions required to address these are prioritised through daily monitoring, review and scheduled meetings or engagements with other functions.
- Contribute to maintaining well integrity and offshore facilities integrity (monitoring and reporting, make decisions within boundaries and ensure actions are closed out). Ensure integrity of wells and any identified problems are highlighted, cascaded and acted upon by relevant parties.
2) Data Validation
- Verify production measurements accuracy/performance for accurate production allocation (from Hub level down to Well level). Liaise with Metering team to track & resolve measurement issues timely.
- Timely completion, completeness & validation of EC monthly data (production well test data, deferment data, venting, flaring & fuel data) to ensure timely month-end EC closing
- Validate and improve quality of input data provided by offshore field operations prior to processing especially production and well test data. These includes assessing uncertainty in data, checking field data and ensure that the inputs are correct and consistent especially for well tests and sampling, validating well volumes and well test data going into EC (Energy Components), validating deferment data and carrying out a post-allocation review to ensure allocated volumes are realistic.
3) Well review & Production System Optimisation
- Keep the field limit diagrams up to date by performing well pressure decline analysis and providing monthly well potential forecast. Prepare platform Capacity Test program when required, with close collaboration with multiple teams (Process Engineer, PC lab support, Frontline operations, PTs etc)
- Identifying opportunities in the short / medium term for optimisation, agreeing actions and owners and monitoring close-out. This is to ensure that the offshore facilities are operated within their operating envelope at the optimum operating point by working closely with the process engineers, offshore operators and other supporting functions.
- Contribute to the identification of the optimum operating point within the envelope.
- Optimise and monitor daily oil, gas, injection, waste streams and GHG performances.
- Co-ordinate and review results of well test for all the active wells to minimize production deferment and OPEX within the context of PETRONAS Governing Standard requirements for well testing.
- Close coordination with Project team to timely resolve issues/ punchlists when any new fields come on-stream.
4) Deferment Management
- Validate deferment analysis, supporting the Production Performance and Deferment Engineer.
- Manage and initiate the follow-up actions from the deferment analysis. Ensure there is focus on action and progression of action and that loops are closed through the Proactive Technical Monitoring process.
- Provide quality information and analysis in support of Manage Threats and Opportunities process.
- Ensure any insights or results developed are fed into a more accurate forecasting process.
5) Planning, Forecasting, WRFM & Performance Management
- Provide input to the IAP/IPP process on activities affecting production and feedback as the result of actual performance monitoring and provide enhanced production reliability and availability assumptions.
- In conjunction with WRFM (Wells, Reservoir & Facilities Management), provide input to the WRFM activity plan and well testing/surveillance program.
- Contribute to procedures for routine activities, explain activities objectives to field operations and get their commitment, monitor execution and close out of these activities and identify improvements to the programs.
- Awareness of the production and export related constraints, opportunities and issues.
6) Offtake/Tanker Scheduling (for Sabah hub-assigned PSEs)
- Optimise and validate short-term sales commitments based on short-term & medium-term forecast.
- Liaise closely with tanker scheduler to provide an assured 90-day plan as well as manage and mitigate the demurrage and/or tank top risks.
- Manage and align expected production rates (to balance supply and demand) to meet delivery nominations and avoid tank top and/or demurrage.
7) Well Integrity
- Verify well condition parameters in eWIMS and initiate corrective actions within the boundaries and guidelines laid down by the well failure model.
- Monitor well integrity surveillance and maintenance activities based on well reservoir surveillance plan and deviation reports.
8) Systems
- Advise Hydrocarbon Allocation Engineer on any impending changes to the field production setup (for example new well tie-in, train switching, re-route of offshore fuel gas or flare gas tap-off, etc) or any other factors that will affect the allocation algorithm
- Focal Point for Fieldware Production Universe (PU), OSIsoft PI Processbook, Energy Components, and production-related exception based surveillance for Daily Production Review.
- Coordinate with PT to clarify the data specification and visualisation of well surveillance within the operating envelope.
What We Need from You:
- At least 8 years’ Upstream industry experience with strong grounding in a technical discipline such Production Operations, Process Engineering, Production Technology.
- Operational experience in surface operations or subsurface operations and technology would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaborative work with multi-discipline WRFM and Production Natural Teams team. Adapts communication and influencing approach to effectively engage various levels of the organization, internally and externally.
- Thorough understanding of the production chain coupled with strong analytical & critical thinking skills, giving the ability to develop holistic solutions to production system issues and integrate technical inputs across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to make a balanced assessment of risks and opportunities with a focus on value or FCF impact.
- Track record of results delivery in diverse, challenging environments, with a lot of personal drive.
- Demonstrates decisiveness and ability to adapt under time pressure or sudden changes in steer.
