What’s the role

This is an opportunity to join as a R&M Environmental Lead for the first Deepwater Sour Gas development in Sarawak, the Rosmari and Marjoram fields to deliver safe production of hydrocarbon within operating envelope, business targets and regulatory compliances. The incumbent will be based in Miri (OSSM office) at the early stage of the project and will progressively be relocated to Bintulu R&M OGP Office to support the Commissioning, Start Up, and Operations of R&M.

What you’ll be doing

As the Senior Environment Advisor, you will be expected to have the following accountabilities, but not limited to below, which may be included as and when required to ensure successful ORA processes, Start Up Ramp Up (SURU) and OPERATE phase of R&M Platform & OGP.

  • Relentless pursuit of Goal zero target with no harm to people (Personal Safety) and no Leak (Process Safety)
  • Ensure asset readiness during project execution phase and lead the integrated project and asset team to start up Offshore facilities and OGP safely and meeting SURU Target. During operate phase, accountable for safe and reliable production of Rosmari & Marjoram fields to meet agreed production/emissions/discharge/HSSE business targets and drive towards top quartile R&M Asset lifecycle performance. 
  • Be the single point of accountability to drive compliance/improvements of R&M OGP to regulatory, technical, sustainable development support and assurance for RnM, with respect to all environmental requirements and reporting (supporting with R&M HSSE Manager)
  • Be accountable for driving competence development, assurance and planning for R&M related staffs on CePSO(AIR), CePSWaM (Scheduled Waste), CePIESTO-PCP (Physical Chemical Process), CePIESTO-BP (Biological Process) and any other related environmental license to operate requirements.
  • Drive environmental performance improvement in R&M Operations, in pursuit of full compliance with regulatory and Shell’s Safety, Environment and Asset Management Systems Standard and the Goal Zero aspiration of zero environmental incidents (No Leaks, no spills).
  • Drive continuous environmental improvement in support of business execution and prepare the business for environmental challenges and opportunities of the future including the Shell Group Climate Ambition and Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production’s Energy Transition Journey.
  • Provide expert technical and policy guidance and direction to other R&M departments by advising on standards for environmental affairs and ensure all reporting occurs pursuant to licenses and permits for all environmental aspects.
  • Establish and foster good working relationships with regulatory authorities (ie. DOE & NREB) and partners.
  • Lead site environmental monitoring activity (ambient air, perimeter noise, flue gas, wastewater, soil & groundwater, seawater, biosludge etc.) on the required monitoring cycle, provide relevant site input for monitoring evidence, review monitoring reports & prepare for related submissions to regulators & internal.
  • Support to measure, analyse, review, report and communicate site environmental performance, environmental monitoring programs, and maintain records in accordance with regulatory, Shell’s internal requirements; whichever stringent.
  • Lead environmental compliance, resolving environmental issues, and maintaining continuous improvement strategy & strong value creation.
  • Lead effective environmental policy implementation, with clear strategies and tactics that will deliver the aspiration of Achieving Net Zero Emission and Respecting Nature strategies.
  • Be responsible for ensuring environmental risks are managed effectively; identifies and manages environment risks for R&M.
  • Monitors R&M's compliance with legislation and Shell’s standards. Identify and manage Environment Non-compliances.
  • Consult with Regulators, Industry Bodies, Shell Group and other internal & external
  • Lead delivery of Environmental assurance activities ie. ISO 14001 audit, environmental compliance audit.
  • Interface internally within Shell (Authorised SMEs) and externally (Government Agencies, Regulators, PETRONAS and other JV Partners) on matters such as environmental best practices, legislation development / interpretations, etc.
  • Establish and foster a good working relationship with local regulatory authorities & contractor partners.
  • Able to provide HSSE advice based on local regulatory requirements related to safety, security and health elements.

What you bring

We are keen to explore and meet individuals who have the following:

  • 10 - 15 years of oil and gas oil & gas or Petrochemical industry, of which at least 7 years should have been as an environmental adviser in the oil & gas industry. 
  • Degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) in Science or Environmental Science or Engineering degree.
  • Well versed in EQA especially on CePSO(AIR), CePSWaM (Scheduled Waste), CePIESTO-PCP (Physical Chemical Process), CePIESTO-BP (Biological Process). Registered with DOE for at least one of the Certified Professional Competent Person, would be an advantage.
  • Good leadership, stakeholder management, planning, communication/writing and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of HSE management principles and their application.
  • Knowledge of environmental standards and project management.
  • Working knowledge of International Environmental Protocols and Conventions.
  • Working knowledge and experience in implementing ISO 14001 (environmental management systems) and ISO 14064 (GHG Data Verification for Reasonable Assurance).
  • Well verse in relevant HSSE requirement, practices and regulation by Malaysia Authorities and Regulators, including ISO45001 & IS14001.
