Commercial Analyst
What’s the role?
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commercial Analyst to support our commercial business and sales functions. This role is pivotal in enabling our team to make data-driven decisions, optimize commercial processes, and drive business growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for three key areas: Competitive Analysis and Value Chain Understanding, Sales Manager Support on Market Insights, and Commercial Process Ownership and Demand Planning.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, business acumen, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure alignment on commercial objectives.
1. Competitive Analysis & Value Chain Understanding
- Conduct regular market and competitive analysis to identify market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities or threats.
- Analyze the entire value chain from procurement, production, distribution, and customer interaction to identify efficiency opportunities and areas for growth.
- Support the development of strategic initiatives by providing data-driven insights into competitor performance, pricing, positioning, and customer behavior.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of key competitors and market players, ensuring real-time updates on pricing models, promotions, and industry developments.
2. Sales Manager Support & Market Understanding
- Provide ad hoc analytical support to the sales team by conducting market research and benchmarking, including customer segmentation, market sizing, and potential revenue streams.
- Assist sales managers with key business decisions by providing actionable insights on market dynamics, customer preferences, and competitive positioning.
- Collaborate with the sales team to identify areas of improvement and growth within specific markets, ensuring that sales strategies align with market conditions and company objectives.
- Assist in the development of sales forecasting and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
3. Commercial Process Focal & Demand Planning
- Own the end-to-end commercial process for the business unit, ensuring all procedures and documentation are up to date, consistent, and aligned with overall commercial strategy.
- Lead the demand planning process, collaborating with sales managers and product managers to gather input on future demand, sales forecasts, and inventory requirements.
- Maintain accurate demand forecasts, identifying potential gaps or risks and working proactively with stakeholders to mitigate any discrepancies.
- Support the sales team in planning promotional campaigns, pricing adjustments, and product launches by providing commercial insights and demand forecasts.
What we need from you
We are keen to talk to candidates who will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or related field; MBA or equivalent is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial analysis, sales support, demand planning, or a related field in a commercial or sales-driven organization.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis, with advanced knowledge of Excel, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and market research techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and insights in a clear, actionable manner to cross-functional teams.
- Solid understanding of commercial functions, including sales, marketing, and supply chain processes.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and with senior leadership, showing initiative and accountability in driving projects forward.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in analysis and reporting.

On 8 May 2024, Shell Singapore Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Shell plc, reached an agreement to sell its Shell Energy and Chemicals Park in Singapore (“SECP Business”) to CAPGC Pte. Ltd. (“CAPGC”), a joint venture company between Chandra Asri Capital Pte. Ltd. and Glencore Asian Holdings Pte. Ltd (the “Transaction”). The Transaction will transfer all of Shell’s interest in the SECP Business to CAPGC. Subject to regulatory approval, the Transaction is expected to complete by the end of 2024. This position is part of the in-scope SECP Business and while the employing entity may initially be SGCH a successful candidate’s employment contract will subsequently be transferred to Aster Chemicals and Energy Pte. Ltd. (“ACE”) to facilitate the Transaction. From completion of the Transaction, ACE will cease to be a Shell group company and will be owned by CAPGC.
Specific details relating to the impact on relevant employees supporting the SECP Business and timeline relating to the change of employing entities, will be shared with the successful candidate.
