The Environment Specialist ensures all legal, regulatory, Shell Group and DS-M Environmental requirements related to Company owned or controlled Waste and Circularity, based on assignment, are translated into transparent and pragmatic site work processes and procedures.

You will also be assigned to implement Environmental Waste Circularity or Environmental Improvement Programme and ensure all related activities are conducted and managed in accordance with agreed Environmental practices and procedure as outlined in the site Environment management system and Performance, Monitoring & Reporting (PMR) environmental performance reporting requirements. Identify opportunities to reuse Waste for the same or alternative applications or return unused materials to suppliers. Identify recycling and recovery opportunities for Waste. Site focal point for the site Waste minimisation strategy document. If assigned, candidate may be assigned other Environmental specialty tasks. 

What’s the role?

As an Environment Specialist, you will also perform the following accountabilities:

  • Provide advice on all environmental matters or Waste & Circularity, as assigned, to members in the Production Units assigned, including contractors
  • Give environmental advice related to Waste or other Environment specialty areas as assigned on day-to-day operations, e.g. plant operation, construction, plant modification, maintenance works, transportation and other works conducted in or related to site operations. Provide advice, regarding environmental aspects associated to Waste on design, selection, purchase and installation of new equipment arising from small to medium sized projects. To provide advice on appropriate type of waste container to use, if required.
  • Investigate the incident reports with regards to environmental or Waste issues, as assigned, and advise on mitigation or preventive measures if appropriate.
  • Ensure that sound environmental or Waste, as assigned, control systems and practices are maintained and followed by reviewing the environmental or Waste strategy and control systems with regular confirmation of field practices.
  • Monitoring environmental or Waste performance and provide technical/HSE assistance to the field while advising on ways to improve overall environmental or Waste performance, as assigned.
  • Develop and implement environmental or Waste solutions, working with cross functional/disciplines and Waste or Environmental SME and influencing key stakeholders to achieve the Environment or Waste tactics/goals.
  • Collect the data on environmental or Waste performance to produce the environmental reports for the stakeholders.
  • Maintain and continually improve on the Environmental Aspects or Waste of the HEMP Implementation Plan, as assigned.
  • Raise Management of Change (MOC) to solve problems related to Waste or Environment as required.
  • Conduct or Support Waste Facility Review, as assigned, together with Waste SME for Waste Disposal the assessment of Hazardous Waste Disposal sites against Internationally Recognised Standards. Maintain the list of pre-approved Waste Facilities that site can engaged for waste disposal.
  • As assigned, maintain Waste tracking records for periods defined by local legal requirements and the Group Records Management System. Maintain and keep up to date the site Waste inventories list.
  • Provide trainings to site personal on their roles and responsibilities related to environmental or waste management.
  • Upkeep and ensure site online Waste Disposal Request form are functional and efficient, as assigned. Perform daily Waste Coordination for the site as part of Waste Control Tower.
  • Assist as required with internal and external audits such as HSSE & SP Control Framework audit and ISO 14001 certification.

What we need from you

To be a successful Environment Specialist, you will have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as Environmental Engineer; or Chemical Engineer; or Process Engineer or related disciplines.
  • Minimum B.S. or B.Eng. degree in Chemical, Process, Environment Engineering or other relevant technical degree related to environment.
  • Knowledgeable with NEA Environment Regulations and ISO 14001 management system.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional business teams. Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Technical competency and strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
