What’s the role?

The process control technologist role is to be responsible for delivering the control and safety systems upgrading projects with respect to alarm management, base layer control, safeguarding logic design and commissioning and implementation is done in accordance with the standards and best practices. He/she is required to provide the related training to operators.

Accountabilities: 

  • Provide technical assurance for process control for projects which includes assurance that the engineering deliverables are done correctly and provide technical sign-off

  • Provide QC/QA process control deliverables and contribute to other technical deliverables when required

  • Provides review and input into contractor deliverables such as functional specifications, technical queries and deviation requests from the contractor and management of change requests

  • Interface with Project and Engineering department to co-ordinate and plan the resources required to support the delivery of projects with scope for alarm management, process control and safeguarding

  • Coordinate the interfaces with other disciplines on the project and coordinate engineering support from contractor or Main Automation Contractor (MAC) if required

  • Support major activities like Factory Acceptance Test or Site Acceptance Test (FAT/SAT) for Distributed Control System (DCS) and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) changes to provide assurance for process monitoring, alarm management solutions, control and safeguarding functionality

  • Contribute to knowledge retention by delivering documents such as process control and safeguarding narratives, inclusive of Cause and Effect diagrams and consolidations of lessons learnt

  • Document and update a standard engineering practice to ensure consistent and standardized implementation across the entire site

  • Participate in major activities like factory acceptance and site acceptance tests for DCS, Oil Movement System (OMS) and SIS and unit startup support.

  • Identify opportunities for improvements in control strategy and control configuration.

  • Improve robustness of Base Layer control performance, delivery of high uptime and low operator intervention rates.

  • Maximize benefits from optimization applications through the implementation of unit wide Advanced Process Control (APC) and Real Time Optimization (including Advanced Analytics) systems.

  • Support the design and implementation of Advanced Process Control applications to maximize benefits and save energy

  • Support Production team activities for e.g. alarm management and ensure plan delivery

  • Participate in design or safety review and provide process control and safeguarding related inputs to projects.

  • Contribute to multifunctional teams in site wide initiatives, such as unit shutdown/startup preparation and coordination.

  • Demonstrate strong learner mindset and commits to be digitally literate to drive value creation through digitalisation.

What we need from you

We are keen to speak to individuals with the following:

  • Chemical engineer or similar background by either education or by experience

  • Knowledge of oil/chemical manufacturing processes

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant Process Control experience in oil/gas industry.

  • Have basic competency level for APC applications and technology such as PACE

  • Have knowledge and experience with Yokogawa DCS system & Prosafe-RS and ability to execute engineering changes.

  • Be able to tune, design and implement process control loops independently.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal relation skills.

  • Good collaboration and team working skills, with a keen ability to develop a good rapport with Process Operating teams.

  • Be able to prioritize and manage expectations in the case of competing requests from stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and application of Base Layer Control in process units

  • Knowledge of Advanced Process Control and Modelling & Real Time Optimization

  • Knowledge of Compressor Control

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in Process Automation Systems Engineering

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in Safety Instrumented Systems and Safeguarding

  • Knowledge of alarm management and human-machine interface (HMI) design for Operations

  • Basic understanding of Operational Technology Security

This position is part of the in-scope SECP Business and while the employing entity may initially be SGOP, a successful candidate’s employment contract will subsequently be with transferred to Aster Chemicals and Energy Pte. Ltd. (“ACE”) to facilitate the Transaction. From completion of the Transaction, ACE will cease to be a Shell group company and will be owned by CAPGC.

Specific details on relating to the impact on relevant employees supporting the SECP Business and timeline relating to the Transaction change of employing entities, will be shared with the successful candidate.
