Terminal Supervisor
Terminal Supervisor at Shell Kingsbury Terminal with an annual throughput of circa 2 billion litres, 18 FTE’s (10 Shell and 8 Contractor) working closely with Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE), Engineering, Supply Operations, Contracting & Procurement (CP) and external stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient & profitable operations.
This is a key role in ensuring that the asset is available to service our customers in a range of markets.

Kingsbury is a world class asset which is based North of Birmingham in the UK. The Terminal is a Joint Venture between Shell and ESSAR and is operated by Shell. The Terminal supplies major UK airports and a number of Mobility customers in the Midlands and beyond with circa 2 billion liters delivered every year. This key strategic asset is pivotal to decarbonisation of the oil and aviation industry with potential to grow into other low carbon fuels whilst maintaining margin.
Kingsbury Terminal is an Upper tier COMAH site and subject to extensive regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Kingsbury Terminal Manager, the role holder contributes to the delivery of our wider ambitions and goals - Goal Zero, Operations Excellence and achieving our Ultimate Potential. This challenging role provides a unique and broad range of development opportunities particularly around, managing risk, creating value & first line leadership.
Purpose of the Shift Supervisor is to oversee day-to-day operations at the Terminal, ensuring full compliance to procedures including the Terminal Operations Manual, all HSSE requirements and the technical readiness for Operation. Kingsbury Terminal is manned 24 hours, 7 days a week 365 days a year and is a critical infrastructure site in the UK.
As Shift Supervisor, you’re accountable for supervising all safety and security aspects of our Kingsbury Terminal. From the safe handling of all fuels and additives received, stored and distributed at the terminal, to supervising the maintenance of plant and equipment. Always with an eye to ensuring compliance with Shell’s safety standards and legislation, and being mindful of meeting performance targets.
You’ll be the type of person who’s confident about stepping up to lead on operations when your line manager is absent and be happy to work in a team that covers a shifted 24/7 operation in order to ensure that the continuity of quality product supply to the terminal is always maintained. Additionally, your strong communication skills are critical to effectively engage with operational staff and contractors to ensure safety and efficiency across the plant.

What’s the role?
The Shift Supervisor Team consists of 7 people and is part of a Terminal Operations Team of 18. They are a key decision maker in the running of the terminal and act as the fully empowered deputy to the Terminal Management Team outside of core hours.
Your more specific duties will include:
- Adhering to Shell’s Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) policies.
- Ensuring the safe import and export of products into a site.
- Supervising all contractors on site by agreeing work objectives with them and ensuring that these are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
- Undertaking evacuation exercises and first aid exercises.
- Ensuring plant, equipment and inventory security is maintained.

What we need from you
We’re keen to hear from individuals who have experience of supervising a shift and operator workforce, with proven skills in ensuring safety and efficiency within a relevant environment. Along with your natural ability to take a strategic view, actively listen, as well as manage risk and change, we’d hope to see as many of the following on your CV:
- An understanding of the import and export of products into a site.
- Knowledge of terminal equipment and plant operations.
- A proven overview of a planned maintenance system.
- Experience of emergency response procedures.
- A demonstrable commitment to drive and improve productivity.
- An understanding of factors that influence customer satisfaction.
Leading & influencing of operational teams is key to enabling constant development of staff & contracting partners whilst maintaining the continuous improvement culture at the Terminal.
Proven first line leadership capability, a positive, solution seeking can-do attitude is required with a learner mindset. Promote a culture of embracing change within the Terminal Operations group and seeking feedback/input from team.
